It's a synergy, but not a great one since unfortunately this card in general is overcosted. 4 mana for a 1/1 that might get one or two counters isn't that tempting.

I like how the artist used the smudge tool to fix his mouth for the block.

It's the only human tribal card I could find in all of Magic...wow.

Much better now with the human errata. I still think it's a good card in the right deck. even if you only have TWO soldier/humans to reveal, he is still able to ping for 2, as a 3/3 for a cmc of 4! That's actually pretty good; but aqgain, he only works that well in the right deck.
3.5/4; good, but not universally playable.

They could have worded the reminder text better. This update to human actually means that if you give your creature more creature types (do I hear Conspiracy?) you can reveal those too, right?

Should work well in a good Sigil Captain deck. They're both four drops though, so he'd better be your top choice for a second four drop. Usually hitting the board as a 4/4 or 5/5 that can sometimes tap to ping an opponents creature is just great. Would be nice if he were 3 cmc though :(

Once upon a time I thought this was on a short list of 'most awful cards ever'. I figured out I was wrong when I came to know about some cards from Magic's dark past.
This still sucks.

while the errata makes it remain basically 'just about playable' today, back in the day it was such a swingy errata change that it actually warped the Limited environment, going from a 2/2 or 3/3 much of the time to a 6/6 or 7/7 much of the time overnight, because of the many creatures to receive Human as an errata'd type. It was suggested by an old article from the period that it should be reset to only affect Soldiers.
I think if that change had been made, it would still be a 2 or more star card today (not over 2.5), and because it's easy to find a lot of Human-Soldiers, a casual deck could still find him a home, but I don't think it was a bad enough decision to not re-errata it that it grossly negatively impacted Magic's History.
Trivia Nerds might like to know little things like this, though. :) My Vorthos side doesn't really know whether to Like or Dislike his interaction with Human-Werewolves, and ultimately decides that because there are no White Werewolves, it's odd but ok. And playing this next to Mayor of Avabruck is strangely pleasing since Green and White are allied colors. I admit Vorthos would be offended if a person made a Boros deck with this and Mono-Red Werewolves, and it refuses to comment on using it with Huntmaster of the Fells, because it's torn enough to see things either way.

the errata for humans makes this boss in a blue white deck with dedicated card draw. otherworld atlas and now you have 7 more cards in hand, hopefully all being humans. play with some aether adepts and you can push creatures out of the way to attack with this guy.

I'll never forget how, in a draft at the Legions prerelease, my apparently mana-screwed opponent finally hit his 4th Plains . . . and dropped back-to-back 7/7 rangestrikers to turn the game around.

Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what use is a blocker if you are unable to block?
