"Hoo boy. Potential Legacy applications." — Continue

I'm not too sure if this will become a thing in Legacy, due to the activation cost requiring mana.
I know, this doesn't stop Grim Lavamancer from being awesome, but his ability is clearly one-sided.

I would have adored this lady if the activation cost was Tap only.

I'd say this is one of the hardest tests of skill in MTG I know. Think carefully kids.

I see her doing work in a Blue Moon deck. I love seeing a 1-drop that draws cards, and at uncommon, to boot!

Even if this doesn't take the world by storm, at the very least, it is a solid interesting uncommon.

I don't have a problem with black pearls living in white oysters. In case anybody thought I did. I don't.

Anyway, skill test schmil test. If you get something good, keep it. Doesn't matter what your opponent's up to.

If the activation didn't cost mana, then this would be better than a one mana 1/1 that is also a Howling Mine (See Kami of the Crescent Moon), which would definitely be insane.

Very interesting option. Do you want your card more than you don't want your opponent to have theirs? That choice gets more lopsided in multiplayer games. Throw it in a graveyard manip deck and you can have yor cake and eat it too.

This is brutal to play against. It hit me many times, and it was never a hard choice for my opponents.

Does anyone remember that Fateseal is not a fun mechanic to play against? When I got this out on T1 of the pre-release, it soft-locked my opponent every time. Mana ... DENIED!

I feel like this was an attempt to "fix" the Fateseal mechanic, but I bet it ends up even more broken.

I've dodged quite a few proverbial bullets with this chick. Such a good effect, you will almost always get the best side of this effect.

The entirety of Blue philosophy contained beautifully in 1 CMC. Gain information, then decide the best course of action based on that information.

I've heard rumours that this could replace Cursecatcher in Mono-Blue Merfolk decks. It's application can be used more than a possible early-game Aether Vial surprise. You have a land and they have a spell? Mill that. You a spell, they a land? It's time to draw. It could soft-lock down a deck... never mind any scrying.

Well, all I know is, Cursecatcher is $12, this is currently $0.50. I'd say it's worth a try.

Great ability early game. The toss up is whether to mill your opponent's cards or not....well, honestly, even if you choose not to, you're getting a glimpse at what they have coming up. Excellent ability. I'll want a playset or two come this friday.

Play it with Notion thief in a UB deck. You get 2 cards a turn for the cost of {U}, {T}, or you can still make them get rid of their bomb at the cost of only one card additional.

The thing is, you might think, "If I have a good card coming up and my opponent doesn't, draw. Vice versa, don't draw. About equal, depends on if I need the card or not." The thing is...even if the card your opponent gets is a bad card, you're not necessary helping them less than yourself, because now they're one card closer to drawing a good one, which they might get in their next draw phase.

One possible exception is if your opponent has no good cards left in their deck, or significantly fewer than you do. Maybe they're running an aggro deck with cheap dudes with low attack and a lot of them can't break through your Jace, Architect of Thought or Elspeth, Sun's Champion. But on the other hand, if your opponent's board can't get past those bombs, then you can win off the big 'Walkers anwyay; why give your opponent more chances to draw the few cards than can still win him the game when you've already got all the cards you need to do so?

You can, of course, use her as a Howling Mine variant with a maintenance cost and the ability to see what cards they get and prevent them from drawing it if it will win them the game. That might be the best use of it, because if you expect this to give you card advantage-or at least card quality advantage-its gonna backfire somewhat often.

Had two of these lovely ladies out in an Izzet Counterburn mirror match-up with my buddy. Their finest moment was when on turn five, I used one to reveal an island, and my friend reveals... Jace, Memory Adept. I just smiled and slowly set my island in my graveyard :)

Definite 4/5 for me just because of that moment alone. Will definitely see a permanent spot in my Izzet deck.

I used this at the release to lock an opponent out of his secondary colour (Black). Every time he revealed a Swamp during upkeep I would bin it!

I love this card, regardless of power, simply because it is so damn interesting! I do hope that it will see play in some format, though.

On the topic of Fateseal, though, I do wish that they had reintroduced it in this set regardless. It may not be a fun mechanic to play against, but that doesn't stop WotC from printing new counterspells.

This isn't quite as good at denying as fateseal, as it can only deny good cards rather than leave the bad ones on top. Still very powerful and flexible and, surprisingly, uncommon. There will be some situations where a player will have to choose to give their opponent something useful to try to get an important combo piece or win condition out of this card's effect, but at least it offers knowledge of what the opponent gets. As with the vast majority of "symmetrical" effects, the person using it has the advantage, having built around it. This not only fits perfectly in decks that have a lot of scry, it essentially works like Goblin GuideandPath to Exilewhen it works best, giving you spells and your opponent lands.

I'm going to have to give this a tentative 3.5, but expect to change this rating to as much as a 4.5. It is a very solid little card at the very least.

Oh and did I mention it's an UNCOMMON?!?
Honestly the only thing that could make this more rare-worthy would be pushing p/t and removing the 1 mana requirement or tap to activate. Not too often you see uncommons that are eternal format worthy, the last most likely being Young Pyromancer.

This card is pretty good, and hilarious. I used it to deny my opponent the second on color land he needed. Pretty good trolling card.
