Fits very nicely in the monored curve with:
Turn 3: Chandra's Phoenix
Turn 4: This thing
Turn 5: Stormbreath Dragon

This Phoenix is excellent can either come in with haste and genuine Phoenixy immortality or as huge fatty flyer!

This card is so anti-hyped, pick up your playset now before people get their brains in gear.

@subatomicoffee - Works in Grull and Jund too!

I'm looking forward to how she does. Might be one of the sleeper hits of the set. Or just another jank mythic...

A tip: Play tribute cards for the worst possible scenario. I believe most commonly the opponent will let this be a 5/5 and kill it, so put it in your deck believing this will be the case. Of course, there will be instances where your opponent has, let's say, a 4/4 flier that can block this all day. Then it will likely be a 3/3 every time. But the fact that it comes back to your hand (and you can burn for the last points of damage if blocked) makes it awesome. Great card 4/5

Most likely a Rathi Dragon without drawbacks.

Quite bland for a mythic, I'll not be overly pleased to pull this one, but perhaps it'll make good trade fodder.

Meh for a mythic, but it's still nice value either way.

I may have overlooked this card a bit at first, but this looks like it fits between rare and mythic. I guess Wizards decided to play it safe. However, there are few other cards in the set that I would enjoy having over this in my Limited pool.

Pulled this in the pre-release. For some reason every person i went against chose not to pay tribute. (However I obviously couldn't read and didn't realise it had haste, whoopsie.)

This pheonix is insane. If they don't pay the tribute, you get a 3/3 flying haste that comes back to life when it dies. And when it comes back to life, they have to pay the tribute again or let you have another 3/3 flying haste that comes back to life.

One way or another you're getting a 5/5 flyer for 2RR. This is easily 4.5/5 stars.

This thing is terrible, minus one card: Fall of the Hammer makes this card playable. This card will never, EVER hit the battlefield with haste and it's effect, it will ALWAYS (well, 99% of the time) be a 5/5 flyer for 4. (Lesson of the prerelease: people fear effects far more than size, even in limited.) However, even as a 5/5 for 4, if you drop it turn 6, it can drag down something with it, and as long as you don't lose it blocking a Desecration Demon, it'll be worthwhile. 4/5 for being a good body for the new mono red removal, 2/5 for anything else you can even think of doing with it because your opponent won't let you.

There is a reason this thing is Mythic: It is the only red mythic rare in the block.

So it's either a scaled up Chandra's Phoenix with a better recursion clause or a Rathi Dragon without a sac-two-mountains clause. I can get behind this.

While not the best tribute card and hardly "Mythic" feeling, a 5/5 flyer for 4 makes for a decent finisher in monored.

After playing this for a few days, I'm surprised at how often tribute isn't paid. It pretty much only gets paid if my opponent has removal in hand, sees it as very likely to draw removal within a turn or two, or is at 3 or less life and wants another turn to pray for answers.

It's a good card. My only issue with it is that it's a terrible non-bo with the three Anger of the Gods I'm playing mainboard. Having both in hand introduces some tough choices I'd rather not have to face.

Still, 4/5

This card should not be mythic rare, its rare at best. Take a look at other mythic rare cards and see how for a long time red hasn't produced a mythic rare card.

Pretty lousy mythic. Avacyn, yes. Elesh norn, yes. This thing? Not feeling it. Woulda been just fine at rare.

You can choose not to pay the Tribute, then Lightning Strike it in response to its Enter the Battlefield trigger. Your opponent won't get it back because it hasn't gained the "When it dies..." ability.

A great deck to put this in is the phrosh, sky raider of ker commander deck. Being like mortis strider or endless ***roaches, it fits well as a sacrificial creature. And if they do pay tribute, well, the deck does need more flying creatures.

I don't understand why so many people don't like this card. It's a classic phoenix, what's not to like? You either get a 5/5 flier for 4, or a 3/3 haste flier that is recastable.

Hammer of Purphoros comes in on curve the turn prior... if you're really dissatisfied with a non-legendary 5/5 flying 4-drop as a mythic.

That said they probably could have pushed harder with Tribute 3 or trample.
