Second turn Progenitus (with Magus of the Vineyard)... just a little awesome and wrong.

This card is obviously a must big critter decks !! Sac. a 1/1 green token and pop out a Progenitus or Krosan Cloudscraper. Def. a very fun, efficient and relatively cheap spell.

Uhh... It's not instant. It's a sorcery.
Quite decent, especially when you have accel and big creatures. And if you're running green, you're going to have accel and big creatures.

This art is WAY better. Also, the card is broken. Progenitus on turn 3 shouldn't be this easy.

My favorite choices to bring out are Progenitus and Hellkite Overlord. Either of those on turn 3 (sometimes turn 2) is simply amazing.
At 4 mana, the power level of this card is absurd. And it has already been said that it is difficult to stop. My favorite green sorcery? Yes, most certainly.

Turn 1: Lotus Petal, Swamp. Discard Elvish Spirit Guide and play Dark Ritual. Play something costing either {1} or {S} and play this. Win.

@Andon_A: Actually this is better in a deck without much acceleration except, just the few who add mana and can be sacrified. And you really only need the ONE big creature.

Mine has the mana cost torn off the corner....... yeah, I can see people being that angry at this card.

I enjoyed pulling out Plated Slagwurm and Uktabi Kong with this. Then it became a Legacy staple and I traded it off for value... had fun while it lasted though.

When your Elves want to unleash the soul of the world, this is their go to card! So broken in the right deck it's not even funny. Any green ramp deck pops this bad boy out on turn 2 and your opponent starts to emit a foul stench!

I don't know how long this card has been in my/family's collection but I'm so glad it is. It's currently in my Damia, Sage of Stone commander deck and it's always beastly. If someone else is playing blue I always tell them that they do NOT want this spell to resolve. My common targets are Woodfall Primus, Terastodon, but above all: Vorinclex. Getting Big V on turn 3 (with mana available for Lightning Greaves) is very possible and guaranteed to drop the jaws of everyone at the table. Typically, though, I'll play Natural Order saccing a Fauna Shaman after she's done a bit of work tutoring different creatures for me to abuse the extra mana with. This card, Tooth and Nail, and Rite of Replication are all good reasons to run a copy Boseiju in your commander deck; more often than not, I just wait until the counterspell players are tapped out from dealing with everyone else then I drop this and grin. This is an absurdly powerful card.

Text should read: “Sacrifice a one–drop elf: search your library for Progenitus and put it onto the battlefield. Laugh like a maniac while you shuffle your library.”

I always imagine the flavor text as the end of a story.

Due to this version reading like an activated ability, the first time I saw this I thought it was an Enchantment. I nearly crapped my pants. Then I realized it was a Sorcery and it went from "HOW THE *** IS THIS NOT BANNED IN LEGACY AND COMMANDER, RESTRICTED IN VINTAGE AND ALMOST POWER NINE STATUS FAMOUS?" to "Oh, that's an extremely broken Legacy staple with some splashy possibilities in Commander, might even be Tier 2 Vintage playable."

Found a German version of this in my local card shop's box of random cards for 20 cents. :D
This thing is amazing in EDH by the way. Turn 1 Magus of the Vineyard into this on turn two feels amazing.

Yes... and what a fine story too. Asmira was probably an elf, and Mangara was probably a Craterhoof Behemoth.

Actually, the flavor text is the end of the story which is begun in Relic Ward's flavor text. Read together, they form the following sentence:
"Asmira's prayers alone should have freed Mangara from the amber prison . . . but the price of Mangara's freedom was Asmira's life."
The described scene is a central event in the Mirage block storyline. Mangara came to rule Zhalfir, Femeref, and Suq'Ata after bringing peace to Jumaraa. However, he was betrayed by Kaervek, who trapped him in the Amber Prison. Asmira eventually freed Mangara from the prison, but was slain by Purraj, an ally of Kaervek, in the process. Mangara defeated Kaervek by trapping him in the prison afterward.

...The irony is that Mangara will never be fetched by this card without the assistance of his Painter's Servant or some Mind Bending shenanigans.
And really, what's the chance of that?
