Somebody in R&D likes rats....... or maybe they're just thematic for a dirty city like Ravnica.

Call the flavor police! How can a rat be as big as a bear?!?

Strictly better than Walking Corpse. Might see play if we get Cemetery Reaper back in M14.

Judging by the art... when they are the size of a bear.

Also strictly better than walking corpse as it benefits from both the corpse's zombie type and pro-rat cards (there are zero rat hate cards). One of the very rare times where a creature type makes a card strictly better.

Huh, another black Grizzly Bears. That said, though... is the rat really that strong? I mean, yes, compare him to the human corpse - he's huge! He's also undead, that's a point in his favour.

But he's still not as big as an entire pack of Grizzly Bears. Something is amiss here.

Come on, I liked Walking Corpse as the standard. Why was this made?

Grizzly Bears, you look... different?

@xenohedron: because rat tribal makes this even better. e.g. swarmyard and all the rat pumps in this block.

Yeah ok lets not rate this too low considering the walking corpseis over three. Seriously sick of the trolls rating cards far under their worth. a 2/2 for 2 is a highly playable creature.

MAGIC is WAY over due for Rat-Hate, ever since Relentless Rats. No, not for any Development reasons, but because the Flavor is just so good. Relentless Rats is good Rat Design, and Rat-Hate is also good Rat-Flavor Design. :)

And Ravnica is JUST the plane to do it on, but they have made a good Rare Rat this season, but still no Rat-Hate. :/

Something that is like 'Vermin Exterminator'- A White Boros creature that Firebreathes to kill Rats and Insects? :) YEAH!

Or make it an artifact?

@xenohedron: Because a 2/2 for 2 in black is a pretty good card in limited (certainly not first-pick, but you're quite happy to run them), and a rat was more flavourful in Ravnica than a generic walking corpse. Plus, it works nicely with Pack Rat and Ogre Slumlord.

Grizzly bears are soft, this one rat can take a pack of them.

Not quite strictly better-- I'd throw Walking Corpse into my Rat deck to dodge Engineered Plague on Rat. =p Plus you get the irony bonus of rats falling victim to a plague.

For those who are angry that Red doesn't have a grizzly bear- Boros Guildmage, Izzet Guildmage, Rakdos Guildmage, Gruul Guildmage.

But as for true vanillas, Yes, Red is Aggro. But it is NOT a creature color. The list is, with top being the best creature color, and bottom the worst,

Green

White

Black

Red

Blue

This is why black has a bear and red does not. The color wheel is more colmpex than Aggro/Control or Direct Damage/Card Draw.

Why is a rat as big as a bear? Easy. Giant Growth..

(does that imply it started as a -1/-1?)

Very slightly better than Walking Corpse, perhaps even strictly so seeing as how there are no anti-rat cards but plenty of pro-rat ones.

It's actual creature type is "Zombie Rat Bear".
