A great drawing engine for Black. If you are looking for similar effects Graveborn Muse and Howling Mine may be a good places to look. The muse has the benifit of not letting others draw as well as yourself, with the drawback of losing life. In a black deck a little sacrifice for power is expected though.

One of my favorite flavor texts. And of course, an excellent card.

The first time I saw this card going through my friends deck, I was kinda confused, I wasn't really familiar with the story or the characters but I recognized those two and asked "is gerrard about to decapitate urza?"
I can distinctly see more than one in that audience. There are at least... I think... four. At least.

@Dellamortedellamore0 . . . ? How the hell are you comparing this card to Underworld Dreams?

Wow this card is great, with the speed of Dark Ritual anything that gives you card advantage and still lets you be mono black is beasters. If the one damage really gets you just throw out an Urza's Armor. If you really want to be a tool run blue black and have some Paradox Haze out there.

The flavortext is about how Gerrard and Urza are duking it out in the center of Phyrexia with Yawgmoth watching them hidden in a doppleganger of Hanna. Everyone in the audience is merely an extension of Yawgmoth, so there is only one audience member but thousands of bodies with malice.

@scruffynerfhearder loss of life is not damage, damage causes loss of life. Regrettably urza's armor cannot save urza from gerrard

@ScruffyNerfHearder: Urza's Armor does not prevent the life loss caused by this card. The Armor prevents damage, not life loss.

I may sound like an idiot to some professional Legacy players for saying this, but I don't care at this point.
Dark Confidant is a 2/1 creature with one less skull in the top right corner, so it can and often does get additional attacks through. Furthermore, in Legacy, Brainstorm and Sensei's Divining Top can oftentimes eliminate Bob's down-side.
As has been said, Arena is killer in a slow-rolling control deck, but Confidant is even better in a tight-running mid-range deck like Jund.

In the Underworld Dreams.DEC that likes to run The Rack, Black Vise, et. al., and in fact is perfectly happy to leave almost its entire mana production at T1 Swamp -> Sol Ring, T2 Dark Ritual -> Dreams, and then be completely done making mana?
I can see how I wouldn't want to play Phyrexian Arena in that deck. Or, EVEN, Necropotence. Necropotence in that deck would be something like taking a heavy repeating nuclear cannon to a Western shootout at Sundown. I mean, I just don't need it because the cards I'm going to pick for a Discard Grief Deck will be fine and reliable without The Skull, like the dusty pair of pistols you shoot someone with in a proper Duel.
However, this still proves that you just used the phrase "Strictly" completely improperly, like most people do. -.-
Underworld Dreams: Legends Good for Mill Decks
Necropotence: Ice Age Good for Control or Combo Decks, varying ranges of Stupid
Yawgmoth's Bargain: Urza's Destiny Good for Stupid Combo Decks, Only for Stupid Combo Decks
Phyrexian Arena: Apocalypse Good for anything from replacing Howling Mine or Sign in Blood to a lot more sinister things.
Dark Confidant: Ravnica, City of Guilds Good for Aggressive Mid-range where every card is pretty much both a Spell and a Creature. Has 2 more power than P.A., does about 10 more damage.
Bloodgift Demon: Innistrad: Good for when ......Good for....Good when Griselbrand gets banned in EDH and you don't have the others :P He's Fun :)
These cards are incredibly similar to each other, but they belong in different decks. Griselbrand belongs in exactly the decks Yawgmoth's Bargain does, and STRICTLY *is* appropriate there. It's not appropriate to compare the others to, because mana cost, it turns out, really dictates the direction, focus, wants/needs of the decks that much. You COULD Dark Ritual into most of these, but you wouldn't. Actually, I don't know anyone that would Dark Ritual into Bob, when casting him T2 is usually a perfectly Awesome Play anyway and that Dark Ritual can be used to do better things.

People prefer Dark Confidant to this WHY....?
