A hundred years of war is right, this thing looks pretty resilient

Barring exile from your graveyard, this will just keep coming back. If only it had haste as well...

Counter-Phoenix is one of my favorite deck, needless to say I'd enjoy creating new variation with Firewing.

I like it. It's not amazing, but it's resilient and it takes a decent chunk out of life totals with each swing. Thank goodness it has 2 toughness, unlike in DotP13. I feel that giving it haste or one more toughness wouldn't have made it that much more powerful though.

I wish this was good because I love Phoenixes... but this just isn't :/

A great finisher; decent power, evasion, and nicely recursive. You just need to watch out for GY hate. A nice finisher for both RDW and CounterPhoenix.
Yes, Haste would have been nicer, but there are enough ways to give it that it isn't that big a worry.

Wait, what? How does the nesting habits of a mythical, fiery bird have any correlation with human politics? Is this plain old superstition, or is there something more to it?

A cheap phoenix that you don't have to build your deck around. It doesn't wipe the board like Magma Phoenix, but it's cheaper, has more power and fits in a creature deck. Kuldotha Phoenix is bigger, but it costs more mana and requires metalcraft to work. This thing has its place, and I'm definitely going to play it in casual.

And in DOTP they make it a 4/1. It's definitely a solid card though. Super cost efficient, and does what all phoenix's do well: stay available.

You guys are downrating this? 3.5 for what it is - don't compare it to what it's not.

This phoenix just keeps coming back for more. And a 4 power flier? Excellent!

If you take it for a 4/2 flyer for 4 mana it really isnt terrible. The ability is better then not having it I guess. If you plan on using it again, your burning 4C4R for 8 mana... Now a 4/2 flyer for 8 mana IS terrible. Should of really had the return from the grave cost less. Would have made it into a rare that would be used.

Very nice and simple. It's a phoenix, it flies, it deals decent damage, and it can rise from the ashes. It fits nicely into my dredge Phoenix deck.
For those who are whining about how it doesn't have haste, Chandra's Phoenix and Kuldotha Phoenix are the only two out of all the Phoenixes that have haste.

I love this card. It's my favorite card in the red deck on DotP 2013. A 4 power flying blocker that I can bring back whenever I choose to spend the mana? It helps a lot that I can play its return to hand ability at instant speed. I got a m13 box and only got one of this guy :(

It's being downrated because Chandra's Phoenix was printed only a year ago.
I myself didn't like it. It just said, "Oh. Burn was too good in Innistrad. We need to weaken it down a little more (BTW, Innistrad block burn isn't that great)"
If you get it in limited... I don't want to play you.

While not as fun as a Magma Phoenix, it serves a good flying attacker, or if needed, a high power blocker. To be fair, the return to hand cost is very limiting in multicolored decks, but it does a pretty decent job in the long term. 4/5 from me.

And we're back to unplayable phoenixes again. Can I just have Chandra's Phoenix back?
what makes this card good is not in what it does better than everything else, but how much more it can do. It isn't as recursive as Squee, but it is a bigger threat on board, it isn't as cheap to get in play as chandra's phoenix, but the recursion doesn't need built around. It's definitely a solid card.

A 4/2 flyer that costs 8 mana to cast from the graveyard? I expect more from a phoenix. Not a memorable or competitive card but the art is beautiful. Give me a phoenix that makes people tremble when I play a mountain turn 1.

If you pull this in draft, you've basically won. A 4/2 flyer for 4 is already playable in limited, but there is only two cards at common (Vile Rebirth and Pacifism) and two cards at uncommon (Tormod's Crypt and Oblivion Ring) which can deal with this permanently. Worse yet, if you aren't in white you have no ways to deal with it without killing it once. An absolute limited nightmare.
