It would be interesting in a large multiplayer game, just because of what it could do to combat. No one likes to spend mana on a spell that helps your opponent as much as it helps you, and I can't think of a deck that needs damage prevention so badly that it would go about it this way.

Good thing this is symmetrical, phew. 5 mana to prevent 1 damage to yourself would break the game open otherwise.
