I think I definitely prefer Griffin Sentinel over this guy. He costs 1 less, and that three toughness makes the vigilance far more useful.

Surprised they didn't reprint Abbey Matron.

Continuing the tradition of weak griffins...

After they printed Griffin Rider in M12 I expected griffins to receive more support in Inninstrad. Meh.
Seriously, they could at least have reprinted Diving Griffin.

Why is all the best art wasted on cards that will never, ever be used? WHY?

Ugh, Griffin Sentinel is much better than this.

Ugh, sucks. Borderline playable in limited and unplayable in constructed.

Really nice art... shame about the rest.

Cards like this are why I'm not buying any of this set. It's one thing to stop power creep, but power seep is something else. So many cards in Innistrad are just worse reprints. I looked through five boosters a friend bought, and saw maybe 3 cards I'd actually use, and none of them were must-haves.

Technically fair, but not much fun to play with.

Between this and Serra Angel ... that extra White is really something.

Strictly worse than Armored Griffin

Should've either cost 1 less or had one higher power or toughness to make it playable; this could've been a 2/3 and it wouldn't have been broken.

Maybe I'm just being picky, but I don't like the art that much, either. It looks really good as far as artistic skill goes, but there's too much emphasis put on the church and not enough on the griffin, so the hierarchy of images is imbalanced, making it look more like the subject is the church, and there's an obnoxious griffin taking the part of a photo-bomber in the foreground.

Dammit guys, seriously. You introduce Griffins in Mirage, print Griffin Canyon in Visions to get our hopes up, then fill the next 7 years with 80% crap griffins. WHAT THE HELL?

Just two good Griffins before this block is done. That's all I'm asking.

Well, comparable to Assault Griffin at least. One power, vigilance... a decent trade off. Doesn't mean either of them are good. Perhaps if Griffin tribal was more together in constructed, but as is Griffin Rider alone certainly doesn't justify these.

Beautiful, beautiful art. I took this early in a draft for that reason alone. I didn't win the tournament. I didn't really mind.

Only good thing about it is flying. Other than that, this card is rubbish. Canonfodder, even.

Beautiful art! This art foiled is amazing!
0.5/5, 2/2 with flying and vigilance for 3W? It's terrible...

Well, at least the art is quite pretty.

At least it makes sense that Armored Griffin is better.

On the ground, a creature needs 3 or 4 toughness before you can really expect it to start surviving combat. In the air, that's probably a little closer to 2 or 3.

I realize that a card like this seems underpowered, but it's important to realize that this is a common flier, and as such, it's going to be very present in the Limited formats.

In Limited, fliers are powerful enough to be an actual strategy on their own, and this is a flier that can swing for damage and prevent enemy fliers from doing the same.

Try to remember that things like auras and equipment see a lot more use in Limited, and that it wouldn't be unusual for this griffin to be wearing a Skeletal Grimace or a Mask of Avacyn.

Cards like this are generally set up to tweak the Limited environment. I'm guessing if one looks at Innistrad as a whole having this be 2/3 or 3/2 would just get too annoying in too many draft games. I'm not positive, but I seem to remember innistrad being pretty light on fliers/flying defense, so it makes a certain amount of sense.
