Playing this spell is most often worth the cost. Your opponent unfortunately gets the choice, but aside from that if you split them up wisely this will be very cheap creature removal. Even if your opponent has only two creatures you'll be able to destroy the smaller threat.

This card is fantastic! If they have only two creatures, it's a Cruel Edict, not a shabby card. four or more, it gets insane. Most of the time, I cast this and put the biggest threat in one pile and the rest (usually about three-four) in the other. For only two mana, this is easily my favorite kill spell.

Very cheap for such a good effect. If your opponent is on the ball, then he loses half his strength in creatures. Otherwise, he could lose even more than that.

when I searched Do or Die this came up. Is there something wrong with the gatherer?

This is stupid. If they have 1 creature, this card is completely useless. If they have 2 creatures, this is Cruel Edict. If they have 3, this is still bad, because a smart opponent won't make a bad choice. If they have 4, you're probably losing anyway. Seems it was never, ever played in Constructed.

A cheap spell that gets progressively more efficient the later it is played, and more effective the smarter it is played. A great card for any deck looking to cripple big-creature decks and seriously slow down aggro swarm decks.

If you're calling this card stupid, you've clearly never played against any deck that uses tokens and/or hordes of cheap creatures. This thing will bring an elf deck to its knees for virtually no cost.
There are obviously better individual removers; this is obviously a headcount reducer, and a brutally effective one at that. You can always Doom Blade some poor bastard after that if you need to.

Personally I love using this on myself right before Living Death.

It's kind of a Bond Villain moment when your opponent gets their win condition out. "Mr. Bond, you can either save this busload of innocent 1/1s..." "...or your precious Baneslayer Angel! AHAHAHAHAHA"

This card is brilliant. Forget for a second that it costs two mana, provides massive card advantage, and gets around just about every form of creature protection. The sheer evil fun of leisurely stacking your opponent's creatures, then watching him agonize over which ones die is worth it alone.

Half a Plague Wind for less than a quarter of it's cost. Excellent.

This is my favourite kill spell ever! So cheap, so powerful, so evil, so black as only black can be.

this is a really great removal card for the mana cost. Gets around shroud, no color restriction and often bumps off more than one creature all for two measly mana.
it is of course best played when your opponent has numberous creatures however, it has such a cheap casting cost that it's worth a spot in many decks.

This card is extremely effective. Even if your opponent has just two cards, it still has the effect of something like Doom Blade or Go for the Throat. Obviously, it isn't as good, since it is a sorcery and you don't choose your target per-say, but you still destroy 1 creature, for just 1 colorless and 1 black. And when it comes to later game.... oh boy...

I find this to be pretty cheap land destruction when paired with Jolrael, Empress of Beasts. I like to split a couple of the lands up so no matter what they are destroying a couple of them. Absolutely brutal in EDH.

I'm amazed this card isn't banned. I wonder what other colours have in invasion that it's in any way legal and balanced. Also, seems like a fun card to play. Very black.
I started playing during revised, and when my friend told me about this today, I could not believe he was talking about a real card. What a beating.
Normally, black wants to either destroy everything at once, or have single card removal, but not both, since they are wasteful together. However, this and doom blade type cards go very well together.

What makes this card really amazing is it's 2 CMC and it doesn't destroy your creatures. I wouldn't say it's strictly better than mass black removal like Damnation but in some situations, I can see it being a lot better.

It's half a one-sided board wipe for two mana. Doesn't get much better than that. Even if your opponent gets to pick which half, you can generally set it up so the two halves are even.

Interesting synergy with Gutter Grime that you opponent probably wouldn't be expecting.
You: "So I play Do or Die." Opponent: "It says you separate my creatures into-" You: "No, no. I'm targeting myself." Opponent: "What?" You: "I separate my tokens from my non-tokens and choose to destroy my non-tokens." Opponent: "...So your slimes become..." You: "10/10s, yes. And I get 5 more of them."
