Formerly a big blue staple in Type II/Standard. Now except for one U in the casting cost, Sphinx of Magosi is strictly better.

This djinn looks confused and worried at the guy's frivolous wishes.
.......or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

A master of Trickery and Misdirection?
Then why does he look so tortured and sad in the flavour art?? Did he get out beaten by a simple mortal who looks kind of like he's middle class? Or did he lose his touch and now has to suffer the failu- Oh... OOHHH
I see what's going on here!
You WANT us to think you're sad so we'd feel pity for you, you tricky misleading genie!
Well played, well played.

He looks worried because he's wondering what his lecherous master is going to make him do!
Seriously, I used to use this to kill Shivan Dragons back in the day.

Guys, the reason the Djinn in the art is so sad is because he's not the Mahamoti Djinn. The guy holding the lamp is the Mahamoti Djinn, who just tricked a man into switching places with him. Mystery solved.

While the inexperienced man hesitates to make a wish, The Djinn waits, bored and disappointed, and perhaps a little constipated.

I have always loved this card. Way back when I first started playing magic, i traded for one of these and was just so excited. 5/6 Flying for 6 is totally playable, and it was one of the biggest guys around then. Shrugs off Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire, kills Shivan Dragon and lives to tell the tale. Great finisher for blue decks - either if you're going the control route with white or combining with green for mana acceleration to get him out earlier (which was my preference - I'd hope to bring him out on turn 3 with Sol Ring and Birds of Paradise). Slap an Unstable Mutation on him and swing away.
