Seriously, just pay one more and play Grave Titan.

Hey Cemetary Reaper, your M12 Zombie buddies are so outstaningly bad that its turned players on to those newfangled, trendy Vampires for their black Tribal needs.

The only thing that redeemed it in M10 was flavor text. This one is not nearly as cool.

@HairlessThoctar Yes but in limited this thing can trade with Bonebreaker and Stampeding. Late late pick to get a mid sized creature. 1/5 tho

Let's propose neat abilities for the vanilla creatures that get printed in each new core set. Who knows, a bored Wizards developer may happen upon one...

---

A creature riding Zombie Goliath loses all abilities and cannot attack or block if its power or toughness exceeds Zombie Goliath's toughness. If a creature riding Zombie Goliath would die, instead sacrifice Zombie Goliath.

Mount 1BlackBlack (1BlackBlack: Attach Zombie Goliath to a creature you control. While attached to a creature, Zombie Goliath cannot attack or block, and its activated abilities can't be activated. Mount only as a sorcery.)

@ Salient

That ability doesn't make sense flavorfully or is desirable at all.

1 you are riding on a giant zombie? WHAT? In the flavor text, it says there is room to ride inside of it, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to ride inside of it who are still alive. How can they attack if they are inside of it, or on top of a giant?

2 you are spending 8 mana to make a shield for another creature, that is way too much. You can't attack with this card, making its only purpose unavailable to it, and you are protecting a smaller creature to be able to attack with it? Either you are killing your own creature, or making a totem armor for 8 mana.

If you were to consider flavor, then I would suggest making Zombie into a "devouror" (a creature of 3rd DND) which continues its unholy life by consuming life inside of it.

Here is a picture, if you wanna learn more, look it up.

"Consume: (zombie ability) remove a creature card from your graveyard, put a +1/+1 counter on it/+1/+1 until end of turn (and perhaps another temp ability), and trample until end of turn. Consume only as a sorcery."

Now there is some flavor, and a powerful ability with the drawback of killing your graveyard, which many zombie decks use as a resource. It could be used for black zombies in the next set.

However, all of that is pretty moot, they would never introduce mount or consume in a core set, they don't introduce any new abilities in core sets unless they become keywords like hexproof (which isn't really 'new' per say).

I give this guy half a star for being able to fight. But really if WOTC reprints this card in m13 imma start a riot

Horrible... strictly inferior to cards that don't see play. Pay 1 more mana and get Grave Titan, but it's a mythic rare, so it is okay for this to be terrible, or so I'm told.

I have no idea why Black always has to get such lousy large creatures at common level. Maybe it is part of the "theme" of Black, but it is becoming silly. At least the flavor text accurately describes the level of thought that goes into producing this type of booster filler.

From the flavor text, he should obviously have "Bands with Zombies." That way he can be lackluster AND have an archaic ability! ;)

His stats compare unfavorably to those of Stone Golem, who is colorless. Now that's sad.

@Salient

Rules says that you can't attach anything but Auras or Equipments and Fortifications to permanents. Interesting idea though.

I hate Wizards doing this. You are part of global warming. Why do you keep printing a waste that you know people will just throw it away in the trash like this? It is very disappointing when I know that this card will be reprinted for M2013. It is very dumb.

There is nothing worse than people cluttering the boards with whiny comments about cards like these. They are fodder for limited, get over it. Do you expect every new set to improve on EVERY card that came before it? Then all you would do is cry about power creep. The game NEEDS bad cards, without them there would be NO good ones. Every year certain aspects of different colors will get some improvement and other aspects will be weakened, it keeps the game balanced and interesting. Calling wizards stupid isn't going to change anything. I'm looking at you Ike38, although your not the only guilty one here.

As for the card, it CAN make the cut in a sealed deck as one of the final picks if your short on creatures. As others have said it will trade with Bonebreaker Giant, Stampeding Rhino and Stone Golem, so I'll go give this at least a 1.5 out of 5 for being able to take out so many "better" creatures than it is. Not to mention it is a zombie and has stronger tribal support than all of the other mentioned cards. This + Call to the Grave in limited is a pretty legit combo.

Flavour text should end "... and dinner".
