at four mana this would probably have seen play. five mana... just doesn't do it for me.

At 4 mana it would be a super Hill Giant, and we really don't want to completely outclass staples like that at common.

Love a good two-for-one. Think of it this way instead: When Pitchburn Devils dies, cast a free Lightning Bolt. Sound better now?

Why does an Innistrad card refer to goblins? Although the flavor text could be from a planeswalker's perspective, it would have made more sense flavor-wise to compare them to something within the plane. Maybe, though, this card is foreshadowing the existence of goblins in another set in the block, but I have trouble imagining how they might fit in.

This would be a lot better if it was just one mana less. Compared to Goblin Arsonist or Perilous Myr this guy just falls a bit short. It would be a lot more playable if it was simply a 2/2 and one mana less that still pings three to make it fit better with the previous two. Still, it has it's uses. The built in bolt makes it a great blocker and I know it is very playable in drafts in the right decks. 3.5/5
@ TheWrathOfShane No reason to spam the comments sections with mindless whinging about there being a Devil creature in a game with Angels, Demons, Zombies and so much more. I see no reason why your church should be raising such a stink either. Unless you're playing AT church, in which case, STOP PLAYING AT CHURCH!

No reason to make such a controversial creature type... No reason to even go there at all. I have a hard enough time to explain to my church why I play a game called "Magic"... now its got creatures called devils....
@RPG Fan Devil is more controversial. Could have easily made something new instead. Dont blame Christians for thinking this game is satanic when your naming your creatures Devil.

If christians had their way they would probably still be burning people on stakes for doing something they don't even try to understand, so you're having it easy right now among your fellow religious friends. Christians have destroyed so many cultures and so much information in their zealotism and still discriminate and instill fear to people for their beliefs and sexuality that complaining about a simple part of a GAME is, for chrissakes, very hypocrite.

Your problem is easily solved by not going to church. Magic the Gathering is at least as likely to be real as that pile of horseshit. And it's far less harmful.

Can we not have a religious debate in the comments of a Magic card?
Solid common, pretty nice in drafts. 4/5

Man, I don't know what your problem is, but quit ragging on Christians. You want to get along, then get along. Among those of faith, and those who have no faith, you will find every stripe of bad actor. Condeming all Christians or all Muslims or all Jews or all atheists for the actions of a few is very immature of you. This isn't a forum for venting your anti-religious bigotry.

Devils have cool flavor. That's all the reason needed to include the type.
I have to imagine this guy would actually have been pretty useful in draft. A splashable common creature with removal/burn attached could easily have been snatched up after the rare and better uncommons got picked over.
I doubt it's seen much play since, but that's okay.
