This card is an absolute bomb in limited and can be useful in casual blue decks.

Blightsteel Colossus has just been shutdown.

I'm not sure about constructed, but this guy is AMAZING in limited. I had huge success with his shutdown/kill effect. Extremely effective in control builds.

I really like how the -1/-1 counter can be used as an added cost for untapping your creature or an added bonus when tapping an opponents creature.

this is the biggest bomb I'v ever seen in limited. He's incredible. also amazing in slower constructed formats.
I'm not feeling him in standard, but that's just cuz most decks aren't creature dependant

I wish it wouldn't tap itself.

Absolute first pick in drafts.

More expensive but more versatile than Stun Sniper.

Did they misname this card? The water mark is Phyrexian, the flavour is Phyrexian, and even thou the creature in it has four arms it looks more Phyrexian than Vedalken.

one question how is this not an artifact creature. arent all vedalken artifacts?

@jnorm: look at the original Mirrodin block, Ravnica block, and Scars - only in Alara were they artifacts ('cause Esper was weird). Vedalken were just a blue race WOTC made up to replace Merfolk when they didn't want to print them.

@BloodDragon: it's obvious this vedalken has joined Phyrexia and been... compleated.

Activation cost is too much to be overpowered.

Too expensive to be Constructed playable (tappers generally aren't, anyway), but very powerful in Limited. Ranks close to the best MBS removal, I'd probably only take a Burn the Impure, Go for the Throat or Spread the Sickness over it.

Combos well with Training Grounds and Sphinx of Magosi. Attack with the Sphinx, and during your opponent's combat phase, untap him and put a -1/-1 counter on him for one blue mana. Then draw a card and put a +1/+1 counter on him for one more blue mana. Truth in Victory!

even without his awesome ability he'd be pure win simply for the flavor text

I just noticed the vedalken is actually holding a spiky instrument of sorts. Until now I thought he was pulling on a laytex proctologist glove.

This card is such a pain in the @** when its on the battlefeild ...lol.... One of the foundations and contributing factors in my friends Blue/Black deck

This may seem trivial, but I just noticed that the numbers used in the flavor text match perfectly the numbers used on the rest of the card, when read from left to right: 2-1-1-2-1-2. And in the same set as Decimator Web - the designers for Mirrodin Besieged must have had an obsession with numbers.

@ Bazooka: Nice, I did not see that ^^

I noticed something similar to what Bazooka99 mentioned, but slightly different about the flavor text. I accidentally looked at the card to quickly or for whatever reason, then noticed that the 1 in both 211 and 212 could be interpreted as a / in a creatures P/T. From there, if you used this guy's ability on on a 2/1 (Specimen 211) it would die, while a 2/2 (Specimen 212) would survive. I don't know if it was done on purpose, but I felt really friggin cool when I realized that.

I can see this being fun with Undying creatures.

@BloodDragon: Maybe is it a Vedalken who has joined Phyrexia? I mean, it's featured in the Phyrexian commercial... Of course said commercial also features Mirran spells, though...

From Artillerize: Phyrexian or Mirran, most goblins stick to the job they know best.
Yah and thats getting themselves strapped to a bed and being experimented on by a crazy Vedalken.

Combine with Crumbling Ashes to turn this into a destroy creature ability.

Training Grounds absolutely busts this card. {U} and {T} to tap a potentially lethal attacker AND weaken them is absolutely incredible.

Why is it a wizard though?
