... maybe with some tapping support... oh wait, why you just don't drop some creature instead of this "tech"?

I, for one, would put it on a Darksteel Juggernaut.

Maybe you guys haven't see, but this card have a good friend here in scars of mirrodin and his name is Rust tick that have the next ability:
"You may choose not to untap Rust Tick during your untap step.
1, Tap: Tap target artifact. It doesn't untap during its controller's untap step for as long as Rust Tick remains tapped"

It's a decent hoser for the infinite combo with Myr Galvanizer and Palladium Myr, at least. Seems like a good SB in a poison deck just for that.

Amusing in theory against a Darksteel Juggernaut, but the better answer for an infect deck up against a juggernaut is to hold a Tel-Jilad Fallen back to block with. Outside of block, this would work well on an artifact creature in combination with Narcolepsy.

@Artscrafter: I love the idea of this card combined with Narcolepsy for generating a Poison Counter every turn. Thanks for that, the thought never even entered my mind!

Garbage card.
If your opponent doesn't have artifacts? Or if those artifactes don't require beeing tapped to do stuff? And even if they do, your opponent can still choose whether to tap those artifacts or not, depending on if it's worth the poison counter.
Yes, you can work around those drawbacks, but it's not worth the effort. Just play an effective poison card that reliably does its job.

This could have given five poison counters and still not making an infect deck. Even then it would have been a two card combo (say with something that taps) that is situational (they have to have an artifact).

what would happen if i turned a land into a artifact using liquimetal coating... would it still give poison after it turned back into a non artifact or would the enchant go away due to it not being and arty?

I got a lot of use out of these in a scars draft. most decks I saw used either art creatures or art mana sources, so there was pretty much always something to put it on. Outside of block/drafting its use drops off.

@ fencediddy - The enchantment will stay on, but I'm not sure the affect will still work.

Put it on Urza's Contact Lenses and you can have infinite poison counters. Now you need something to use them as fuel.

Sideboard it.

There's a guy in my playgroup who has this ridiculous artifact combo that involves Sol Ring, Voltaic Key, Candelabra of Tawnos, and on top of that he's got a Time Walk that creates an infinite loop of turns as he keeps fishing it out of his graveyard and playing it again. This goes well on that Voltaic Key.

Other than being part of the effort to stymie a combo like that, this just does too little.

Seems like a new version of Artifact Possesion with less clunky wording...that said it can work really well in limited if you're running infect. I just wish it could hit a more common permanent such as creatures.

@ fencediddy

It falls off, you aren't enchanting a legal target (Artifact) anymore, the "Enchant Artifact" is always present and if its failed to be met, Relic Putrescence falls off.

Look at Demonic Appetite's ruling under details

I could see this being an interesting answer for Mono Black Infect to use against something like Signal Pest when against Tempered Steel, however I imagine standard removal would do a better job.

Rust Tick or Tumble Magnet can make the enchanted artifact tap and force a poison counter
