i love this card. in a mono black, the worst it can do is deal 5 damage and give you 5 life. thats the worst it could do

@Sir_Kaeru
I think you mean that's the LEAST it could do.
This can be a win condition in a mono-black deck. Time to dust off my Urza's block Corrupts.

I like the 7th Edition art better. The dude making a face as he gets corrupted makes that picture both hilarious and awesome. Still, a decent card. I'm going to really miss tendrils of corruption when it rotates though.

This an ol' 'tuko are back for some good-reprint monoblack beats.

I like this beter then consume spirit for obivous reasons. I love how there pushing mono colors again with cards like this, i think the game should encourage that.

A waste for the name... and it should stay common. But the rest is good.

On constructed: Tendrils of Corruption is better at killing creatures, and as far as killing players goes, there are too many better options. Also, as far as "per Swamp" cards go, Mind Sludge is cheaper and its effect is much better.
On limited: Say you're running two colors, even split. That means that most games, this'll only hit for three on turn six. Yeah, that'll help in a race, but it's not too impressive otherwise. Never pick this early first pack unless you're set on drafting black, and don't pick it too early in the next two packs unless you're going heavy black. However, when you are running heavy black, this card becomes a bomb, and that volatility sometimes calls for exceptions to the advice above.

Total lifesaver in Vampires. Use together with Sanguine Bond for epic win. Even better than Blood Tribute, if used at the appropriate moment. Well, not quite, but you WILL gain life, which can't be said from Blood Tribute if there are no other vampires on the battlefield (that can be tapped)...

Mind Sludge seems fantastic; but sometimes when i'm against an aggro deck it often only hits for 1 or 2 cards, which is terrible.
I had great success with Suffer the Past in my MBC, and i'm looking to maybe switching to this, since NPH has Surgical Extraction anyways.

I think this card is good precisely because people underestimate it. Nobody really expects MBC to have a finisher that isn't a creature. If they have good board position, they might leave themselves open to a 12-point life swing on turn 6. In control vs. control this can turn games, especially if you can stall long enough to cast it on 8+ swamps rather than as soon as you have the mana.
also, it's fantastic at sniping Planeswalkers! and nobody who hasn't played you a few times before sees it coming!
sure, you need to be in mono-black to make it worthwhile, and it is expensive, but it can be really, really useful.

One of the best finishers in mono black.
Corrupt cannot be compare to tendrils, this serves an entirely different purpose.

direct damage AND life gain? what is this, boros??

Corrupt is invaluable in the mid and late game for my mono black deck, especially in multiplayer. I can finish one player off and gain more life to reload my hand with Necropotence, and I may well end up with another Corrupt in my hand. Repeat as necessary to win.
It's not what you want to see in your opening hand, though.

I love this with Sanguine Bond if you run mono black you minimum gain 6 and opponent loses 12. what's not to like?
5/5. This bloody card has won me sooo many games. KLUTCH.

Yep, it's Floormaster alright. Ever wondered what they would have in their "opening hand"? Get it?

Surprised this wasn't added to 2013, considering how much swamp fetching black has in that set.

In mono-black, this turns the game on its head.
Or just kills them outright. One of the two.

would something like dark ritual stack with this card?

wow, the art in this printing is fabulous. Great card too. Not as efficiently costed as Tendrils of Corruption, but nice to be able to hit players too
I give it 5/5 for the awesome artwork

@ mrbackproblem20:
No, spell or creature mana abilities would not contribute to making this card stronger. "Swamp" means "swamp lands you control," not "Black mana in your mana pool." Only lands that count as swamps meet this card's requirement, so basic swamps, dual lands that count as both, lands that have been turned into swamps via a spell or ability, etc... are all that matter for Corrupt's purposes.

Turn 1: Swamp, dark ritual, dark ritual, dark ritual, this. 1 damage, gain 1 life. GG!!!
Funny thing is, I found this in my magic shop's 10 cents bin ...
Excuse me while I go and fish for more.
