This is really... interesting. At first blush, it looks like junk. Second blush too. But it's a common 2/2 flier in a color that typically gets 1 toughness fliers at common. It's also a SHADE that starts a bit large, which is also significant. Aside from that, I hate paying more than one black for the +1/+1.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during this design meeting. There are other flying shades, and this new card required them to commission/pay an artist to create it! Someone felt pretty strongly about this card!

This shade has flying while most other shades don't. Sure, its mana cost is high, but with a land-drop the following turn you can swing for 5 and flying makes it harder to block.

Its ability should cost 1 colorless mana less. Yeah, very patheric.

This or Nantuko Shade? Think I'll drop them both and play Nether Horror in my Mono Black Control deck...

Strictly WORSE than Chimney Imp...it doesn't combo with Boggart Fodder.

Actually, pretty bad, except for with Training Grounds...but then again, that combos with EVERYTHING!!!!!!! However, this was my first ever foil, so I feel I would be too nice when I rate this card, so I won't

But please, when you do, take into account that comborific ability of Chimney Imp

My goodness, children. Be nice to the limited card, now.

Pretty bad, I've got to admit.
5 is just a really unattractive mana cost.
Drifting Shade is generally better, but this guy isn't completely terrible by any means.

It is worth noting that this Shade's ability is considerably easier on your manabase, and thus, splashable.

There's probably better things for X/B decks to do at 5 mana, but it might be interesting.

I have defended shades for so long. For years I have said that they are good cards, and every now and then, I even show how good they are. But this is absolutely awful. Quick, somebody remove it from the Gatherer, and the rest of us can say the printed copies are fake! We must never let anyone else see this...

This and Mire Shade are just hideously overpriced. A 5CMC 2/2 shade that costs 1Black for each +1/+1? No thanks, I'd rather have this guy. 4CMC, 0/4, double the effect for the same cost. Talk about outclassed.

Oh, and apparently this is getting reprinted in M14. Ugh.
