Terrible card unplayable in any format I hope we never have to suffer seeing anything this bad in a booster again
only possible use for this card I can think of would be to combo with crucible of worlds for a very crappy effect but atleast youd get the lands back

Sadly Raveknight, we have Nantuko Shade in 2011. At least Nantuko can pump whenever.
Mirage was a terrible set.

Also I don't really understand the sorcery speed of this card, did it really need that clause?

Sorcery speed ruined this. If you could pump this after blockers were declared, it might have been okay as a finisher for suicide black at the time. Of course, in this day and age, it's completely outclassed by so many cards, sorcery speed or otherwise.

I would rather have any other shade, aside from maybe Nightwing Shade. Sure, it's +1/+1 counters instead of +1/+1 until end of turn, but seriously? Sacrificing lands just to make an overpriced creature marginally stronger? It didn't work with Wood Elemental and it doesn't work here.

It plays very well with Life from the Loam and Countryside Crusher. If they reprinted this I think that deck would be, at the very least, tested.
