I love the flavor text of this.

Nice to see the Horrors have some PR.

For a black flying creature, it's great. Awesome art and flavor text, too.

Yes, 5/5 for the flavor text. Foul Imp +1 (- a lot of colored mana symbols, and + a rarity hike).

Direct upgrade for Serpent Warrior, which was more than solid limited guy back in good ol' times. Is it enough to make it standard playable? Maybe.

hmmm, I'd rather pay 1 more mana and get the opponent to lose the 3 life too. howling banshee.

Usually better than Ebon Drake, and the ratings certainly reflect that.

Nice. I actually like this guy quite a bit. I don't know if there are very many other cards that might be able to support this guy (Dark Tutelage?) but I would love to try and make a Suicide Black deck for Standard!

I used this in block constructed and it owns!

I like both this card and Howling Banshee. I enjoy drawbacks in general, because they can really make you think. And as the FtV: Relics text sheet says: Magic is a thinking person's game.

What's a Scudder?
In any case, I opened one in limited, and rocked the house with him.
I named him Scooty Puff Jr. and we made an excellent team, me tapping him, and him doing damage.
I didn't like it at first, but after we wrecked shop on a few opponents, I decided he was actually worthy of the title: Early Game Bomb.

At the launch tournament, I loved it when my opponent, who had this as the only creature in his hand, kept having to play it, even as I Dispersed it twice. It became a large problem though when I ran out of Disperses. Raymond Swanland should illustrate all the red and black cards from now on, because his art is great, even when the card isn't.

I remember I used to think this was horrible. "You lose life when you play this? and its only a 3/3 flyer for 3?"

The flavor text sounds reminiscient of Douglas Adams. In a good way.

It's really too bad this was printed in the same format and at the same rarity as Vampire Nighthawk.

I like the Scudder. Very useful in limited; usually a second or third pick, sometimes even first for me. He's not terrible in an aggressive constructed black deck either. 4.5/5

I wouldn't want to play this against blue... Unsummon or worse, Vapor Snag, and you're suddenly flitting a huge chunk of your life away just to play a creature that can trade with a flipped Delver of Secrets.

First turn plains and Cathedral Sanctifier

second turn swamp then bonds of faith Cathedral Sanctifier

third turn plains or swamp and play Necrogen Scudder

end of turn 3 you've got two 3/3's one with flying and no life lost

unless you've got some combo or tribal thing going on, just run the superior Vampire Nighthawk

Its even the same rarity!

Kinda like Serpent warrior but with flying.

No. Just no. My Necrogen Scudders aren't kept aloft by any means of bouyancy OTHER THAN the screaming agony of a thousand murdered souls. And they are most certainly kept aloft.

Would not run in any deck, by virtue of inapplicable flavor text.
