might work as a millstone deck, i suppose... although there are much better tools to mill with...

@wolfbearz: Notice how the cards are exiled, not put into the old yard.

Not bad in a Battle of Wits deck.

The videos they just put up of the televised World Championships has a great game from 2000 where this completely screwed up everything.

@Kirbster: Keep in mind it's paying life, not taking damage, so Sanctuary won't protect you. In fact, it makes it better, since unless they have direct lifeloss cards, you're getting 15/15s for practically no life lost.

I guess if you'd rather make a really bad burn deck into a mill deck this could work... most mill decks don't really have the necessary ability to deal damage as well as mill cards... this is just bad compared to anything else that could be used.

This is obviously a defensive card, not an offensive one, since it essentially says
"Each player now has ~40 life".

If you're control, this should give you plenty of time to take control and win.

Normally, paying 15 life to Phyrexian Processor is a little risky - not so with the Sanctuary. Your life total will remain untouched after the payment, and a few tokens will quickly mill away your opponent afterwards....

Stalls burn, eliminates infect, and lets you run wild with Phyrexian Processor (Jon Finkel, 2000)? Yes please.

This card could help in a deck with alternate win conditions besides damage. Its not something thats full proof, they could exile your winning combo piece, and your on a short clock.

I love that this basically makes you into a beefed up Szadek, Lord of Secrets. It also hoses Dredge, Flashback, Reanimator, and other graveyard based strategies, not to mention how much is messes with "top of deck" tutors and other utility cards. This is not to be underestimated.

In the 2000 World Championship match between Bob Maher and Jon Finkel, Bob made an infamous misplay by casting his Crumbling Sanctuary before attacking with his Phyrexian Processor token when he had Finkel on the ropes. That play eventually cost him the game.

A good reminder that you should be casting most spells post-combat.

I'm thinking about putting this in my UB zombie mill deck. It basically resets any damage they have done to me, and i've already got their library at ~20 cards left.

Kinda crazy that this hasn't been said yet but...Laboratory Maniac. You do need a way to protect the maniac but it is sheer hilarity in multiplayer when people realize that no one will take damage until it goes away.

Thinking of using this in a kitchen table Azor's Elocutors deck, easy way to negate damage from unblockables and any lifeloss that sneaks through doesn't disturb the counters.

Combo time!

Laboratory Maniac + Volcano Hellion + Crumbling Sanctuary = Mill your deck, kill a possible party pooper (Avatar of Woe, etc)

You'd play Sanctuary first, then you play the Hellion. That way, they won't know why that's happening until it's possibly too late.

You still need to draw, so technically, this is a 3.5-4 piece combo. Not bad at all, considering how bad this could mess up (Like, Naturalize-your-sanctuary-as-you-play-Hellion bad).

Regardless, even without the combo, this is a great card, turning every creature into a Undead Alchemist-aided creature.

I run this in Krenko, Mob Boss EDH as an alternate Win-Con. The deck can obviously win by combat damage, but in the off chance that I can't swing (Say, moat in play), I have cards like Kyren Negotiations, Goblin Offensive, and other ways to do direct damage. If I can't deal enough damage to win (say, player has silly amounts of life) then this is the go-to card. Since it exiles, I don't have to worry about normal mill backfires, like Eldrazi preventing a mill win.

This is basically just a great card against decks that can't be killed by damage, for whatever reason. There's really no way to come back from an exiled library.
