This might be my favorite black card of all time. Drawing 5 cards (being the better and more likely option by the time you can cast this) is always nice. But 5 cards AND a 5/5 flyer?

I've been a green and white mage for the entire 16 years i've been playing this game, but this is the sort of card that pulls me toward the dark side. When i hold this card, i'm reminded of that scene in episode III when Anakin and Palpatine are watching that water opera thing.

@darkgnosis: The Promise of Power comes out of your hand as you cast it, so if you choose the Demon token as this card's mode, it's a 4/4.

Its cards like this which make black my favorite color in Magic. Its spells are just so powerful, but the majority of the BEST of black cards will hurt you in some ways. However, the drawbacks are usually not that bad! I'll be playing this in EDH.

The draw 5 for 5 life is the lovely meat of this card. The rest is just gravy. The other mode alone... I guess you can cast it if you're out of life? Entwine doesn't get cast often but it's crazy when it does, as befitting a 9 mana spell.

Blue is supposed to be the best color, but if you look at mana costs only, Black is the decisive winner. (Until you go all the way up to Time Walk, which has just a completely *** cost)

5 cards for 5 mana, very powerful. The demon is optional if you cant afford the life or need a creature, and the entwine is for the late game. Solid card, make sure you run your deck with some Vampire Nighthawk to prepare for this.

@DarthMohawk1 according to the rulings it'll be a 5/5 (not a 4/4) (if you had no other cards in hand to begin with) 12/1/2004 If you pay the entwine cost, you draw five cards, then lose five life, then put the Demon token onto the battlefield. The five cards you draw count toward the Demon's power and toughness.
