Who didn't give The Brainstorm a five? It's one of the most amazing blue draw spell ever printed, almost as good as Ancestral Recall for crying out loud! It can even be better sometimes, when you really need to hide that certain card from the opponent's Duress/Thoughtseize. Say it with me, kids: Brainstorm rules!!!

Best Brainstorm art.

Mercadian Masques was the weirdest set - mostly trash rares and uncommons and on the other hand you have commons like Brainstorm and Dark Ritual.

This art would be the only reason I would consider playing Brainstorm.

I like this art and it reproduces well (if you've seen the full scale image) so I hope they use it for the Commander reprints. The other art looks like he's got a mouth full o' toothpaste.

Not if you're looking to get the effect fast and cheap (mana and money-wise). in some cases, multiple Brainstorm would be better than using Jace the Mind Sculpter if one's deck is only wanting fast card advantage and don't care about the other things Jace can do.
It all depends on one's deck.

This right here is the MVP of Legacy! If you need to win, this card gets you there. If you need to get out of a tight spot, this card gets you there. Not to mention Miracle shenanigans! 5/5

Awesome card deserves a Judge Foil/fnm with amazing artwork rather than the two mediocre arts we've been stuck with.

Actually, LeoKula, No. The Izzet vs. Golgari Brainstorm is easily the 'best'- it's the truest to flavor, the flavor does call for that different, less classic more modern art style, and in fact it reveals better than any print that, from a flavor perspective, Brainstorm is more Blue-Red than Blue-White. It's "Stormy" -and- "Brainy", like Jimmy Neutron "Brain Blast!"
It works very well with their flavor of Science-o-mancy. That over-sized one for Worlds looks a bit too much like Parallax or Galactus would if you made a movie that sucked. I will grant, though, that the Izzet card is also 'too Red'.
But Brainstorm has become one of the Most Iconic Blue Spells in the game. Because it is SO significantly ingrained to the color on a number of levels at this point, it deserves a more mono-colored artwork than the Izzet mage one. Even if that is slightly antithetical to the real concept of Brainstorm. (A Jimmy Neutron-like Brain blast).
Saprazzan Vizier is a more meditative, contemplative, reactive not proactive, Brainstorm.
Forgetting the Power 9 (which is weird because the Power 9 are responsible for making Blue what it became.) there are maybe 10 cards that SCREAM "BLUE". The bluest blue you've ever seen. Bluer than that. BLUER. Look, We're talking Andalites-look-Green, Obi-Wan's lightsaber-looks-Red by comparison Blue. It was BLUE. They are:
Polar Kraken Mystical Tutor Force of Will Counterspell Brainstorm Tarmogoyf (I jest) Cryptic Command Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Jace is a monster of BLUE-ness, looking like all of the others put together. (Including Money-goyf) Well, cuz that's what he is. Jace's art looks almost Black though, in a "Darth Jace, excecute Order 66" kind of way. Mystical Tutor looks debatably White, like she's a government official or something. She looks chained to that room, not freely adventuring to find more Magic. Force of Will looks like the Hulk. That leaves, really, only Brainstorm as a card to Symbolize Blue, that is really completely original, since much of the newer artwork is calling back to established themes from old artworks.
I will give you THIS- this Brainstorm isthe Blue-est Art in the Game, even if it's not the Brainstorm-est.
1. It's the Vintage print of the card- and Blue is the Color Vintage, Legacy, and Winning.
2. It's one of the most-played cards, and this art probably the most-played art, in its color.
3. Saprazzan Vizier, who has never had a card of herself, is probably the most recognizable character without a creature card in the game.
Vizier > Mystical Tutor. Both artworks are Iconic, and Very Fine, but something tells me that Mystical Tutor is harder to pick out in a cosplay crowd: http://www.gatheringmagic.com/inside-the-deck-las-vegas-video-06272013-videos-from-grand-prix-las-vegas-part-two/
4. Saprazzan Vizier is ALSO the most influential card on Jace, The Mind Sculptor's artwork. Saprazzan Vizier casting Cryptic Command is in fact, basically a Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
And those are all things the Izzet card will never get to say.
In the case of Brainstorm, we will yield to Spike instead of Vorthos for artwork. It's an enigma how one does that, but if you Brainstorm hard enough, you'll find the answer.
