so little for so much possibly one of the worst cards in the set

Such a shame...
I love this art, but I will never use this card.

Compare to Scar. Come on Wizards, the cantrip was not worth 3 more mana.

Yeah, Scar... hybrid cards were typically undercosted, so I'd put the target -1/-1 counter effect instant at 2cmc. 2 more for the draw? You won't be happy to play this card, but if you're playing it, it's because the guy to your right grabbed all of the good removal.

These are the type of cards you put in Penny sleeves rather than Tournament sleeves. Great art.

With proliferate, this is not that bad. The fact that this is a candidate for the worst card in the set goes to show just how powerful of an expansion Scars of Mirrodin is. I think it'd be perfectly reasonable to see this in a casual deck not because the builder didn't know better, but because of a limited card pool. So that has to count as something. This blows cards like Razor Boomerang out of the water.

It would figure that in a set named "Scars" they would have to put a useless, pointlessly weakened version of Scar

Oh wow!
Good News: it costs 1 mana less than Chimney Imp and gives your card back.
Bad News: It won't kill Chimney Imp... or is it good news too?

Actually worked wonders in limited. I still avoided drafting it until it was the only thing in my color though.

Very underwhelming. Wasted slot for a nice balancing card.

Should have been:
Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. Proliferate

Come on, I know its overpriced but speaking about limited - removal always deserves top picks, so they have to make a few occasional "bad" removal cards. And - would you really want to see a card that for 2-3 CMC instantly destroys very good cards that EVERYONE plays (talking about Myr) AND draws you a card? Not to mention it is pretty good with proliferate and is actually never a dead card - you can always shrink their creature while drawing a card... Its no Doom Blade, but it deserves higher marks

Is this another "Mindless Null" where somebody thought it would be "funny" for it to be badly overpriced?!

The mana cost for this card makes it absolutely worthless. Guess WOTC was snoozing when they made this one.
Removal is removal. Even if it's weak and costs a lot, some decks will still need this if they can't get their hands on better removal. If you have a few proliferate mechanics it's not even 'entirely' pathetic.
Still... very expensive, when you consider Fume Spitter costs 1 for the same effect without a cantrip, AND you get a 1/1 body in the deal.

How does this get released, and Virulent Wound gets put out in the next release? It had a spot in proliferate decks maybe, but now it has been rendered entirely useless.
Nice art.

I was browsing through the lowest-rated cards on Gatherer and I was amazed that this one was anywhere near the bottom. Thing is, it's not a bad card - I play it every time I get the chance in a booster draft where I'm using any black. It's usually a two-for-one, especially in Limited - where there are no shortage of X/1s to kill. Instant speed is also great - it's a nice combat trick.
I rated this 4/5, for its utility in Limited and how fun it is to play.
me and my playgroup have made it such that it costs 1B like it should of origionally.

How about that. Grim Affliction does that for one mana less.

Should've cost 1 less, then had Target Player draws a card, so it would go with consecrated sphinx.

This card could have costed less and still sucked. Though it would be relatively playable in limited at that point.

Here's a fun game: Whenever you cast her spell, say it's name aloud and suffix it with the phrase "...between her legs". Then, make sure this is in your deck, alongside Crushing Pain and Hydra Omnivore.

I'm glad, however, that is doesn't, as I rely on Birds of Paradise.
