Too expensive? Are you f*$%@*g kidding me? This cards is a frightening beast, and just imagining it with Honor of the Pure makes me sick. White in M10 is incredibly overpowered and this card is another testimony of this fact. Whatever happened to BALANCE OF COLORS? That ain't important anymore? Look at blue. Just look at it. It's pathetic. Worthless garbage, mostly reprints. White, on the other hand, got a s**tload of new dope, including this. This whole set is just ridiculous.

Ah white dope! This is another card of creamy goodness if you can get it into play before cleansing. Some sick interaction with this and cloudgoat ranger. That's a lot of soldiers! At least mobilization didn't get reprinted.
Captain of the Watch+Veteran Armorsmith+Veteran Swordsmith+Honor of the Pure= +3/+3 to all of your soldiers. So those little 1/1 tokens will be a rather problematic 4/4, and that's assuming you don't have a Coat of Arms in play (with just the cards I've mentioned so far, everyone you control would get +5/+5, in addition to the bonus mentioned earlier). Those little tokens could become 9/9 if you can get these cards out without facing a ton of removal, and dismantling the chain of bonuses requires more removal than your opponent is likely to have if you got this far already.

This card is an absolute BEAST! i comboed with Xathrid Demon at the local pre-release and demolished the field with tokens fueling the demon.
At 6 cost, this absolute bomb rounds out the high end of the white weenie mana curve. Except in the case of a 7-drop (or more) martial coup for board clearing (usually ftw as well), this will be the late game answer to broodmate dragon and the like. While baneslayer angel is powerful at 5, captain of the watch is truly superb. First of all, unlike siege-gang, she buffs her own tokens without the help of such buffs as honor of the pure or veteran armorsmith/swordsmith. So unlike siege-gang which creates a total 5 power/toughness for 5 cost, she produces 9 for a cost of 6, assuming your board is empty (worst case scenario). Which means that in a single color, not 3, she is more powerful than broodmate dragon, even alone. Were there any soldiers in play, or an honor of the pure, she creates either 2/3, 3/2, 3/3, 3/4, or 4/4 soldiers (assuming a single copy of armorsmith, sword, honor, honor/armor, honor/sword, or honor/sword/armor). Also, she survives volcanic fallout/infest by herself, and with any of those other buffs, she is impervious to agony warp, firespout... everything but targeted destruction, which is more than many tribal buffs can claim. 5/5

Second best new lord to come out in 2010. 4WW for 4 soldiers 1 3/3 and 3 2/2 all with vigilance. One of the few cards that can compete with this card is is Siege-Gang Cmdr. White is power in this set, but still playing seecond fiddle to Elves.

She is expensive, but she hits the board with an audible thud. If played correctly she's out as early as turn three. Are there answers for her? Sure, she's just a creature. But if they don't have them in hand, they're in trouble quickly. You never don't want to see her if you've got the mana to get her out. And when she 'works' and sticks around long enough to send her boys in, it's a thing of beauty.

its one of the only late game super cards that makes sense to have more then two of in a deck.
i run four in my agro soldier deck
this plus Mirror-Sigil Sergeant plus a white/blue land= YES
first you play the Sergeant, then next turn drop the Captian and you have four trampilling 5/5's with vigilance, turn after that you have the Captian and friends plus eight trampilling 5/5's
if you have more of the white flufing fun (honor of the pure, veteran armor/swordsmith, another Captian) then more power to you
wate a second, you said you wanted to play blue
to bad WotC demands that white have the power
did you not get the memo, we have three good colors and one GOD like color
and blue just rolled up in a corner and died

this card is awesome if you have a ballyrush banneret and a daru warchief in the deck. it will be easy to cast. but if i shall construct a soldier deck, i wouldn't go for this one. soldier deck are built for speed and this one would only be good in the late game. i'll go with benalish commander which is more effective if the deck is a quick bit down.
Can think of it like a 9/9 in four bodies with vigilance that buffs your other creatures for six mana. That sounds pretty good. And if it dies, it leaves behind 3 1/1s (who are probably 3/3s from all the lords you already have out.) And Ballyrush Banneret (what kinda name is that anyway??!) and Daru Warchief say this can drop turn four or five.
Thatsa lotta power in one card.

A 3/3 and three 2/2s, all with vigilance, for the bargain price of six mana? Now this is how I like my creature advantage. And of course other soldiers such as the Veteran Swordsmith, Veteran Armorsmith, and even Rhox Pikemaster help transform the Cap'n's trio of dorks into a fearsome execution squad.

Oddly enough, Captain of the Watch has been used mainly in control decks, not white weenies. Spawning 3 chump blockers along with herself gives you card advantage, and buys you time as long as the opponent's creatures don't have trample or flying (which you'll use your counters/spot removal on them, or block with wall of denial).
Although I think that has to do more with the fact that multicolor decks are just so much stronger than monocolored decks...

If I followed your plan I'd have, on turn seven, one 5/5 trample/vigilance, one 3/3 vigilance, and three 2/2 vigilance. Not eight 5/5 trample/vigilance like you said.
Now to the card, it's an amzing card in soldier decks, a great card for white weenie in general, and a good card on it's own. If you're using white in your deck then there isn't much of a reason not to include this.

She can be Lightning Bolted, but even if it happens, hey, free tokens, and they just wasted a card. Chances are you'll have some sort of buff anyway, so she'll rarely have only three toughness in most cases. When she sticks, she is pretty excellent, being an effective 9/9 with vigilance (3/3 for her, plus three 2/2s) for six mana, not to mention her buff on other soldiers that you no doubt have out by now.
A heavy cost, but exactly what you'd expect to get for six.

Definitely a must for a Soldier deck. Dropping this on turn 4 with Preeminent Captain is nuts. If you don't have access to Preeminent Captains, the high mana cost can be lowered with Daru Warchief (another must for soldier decks imo) and Ballyrush Banneret.

Too expensive to cast to be viable in real competitive decks. Sure, Preeminent Captain helps, but if you don't draw him you are stuck with a 6 drop you can't play. This card is not superior enough in the 6 CMC slot to make a deck around it. There are far better 6 CMC creatures in Magic. Yes, it has good synergy with soldiers, but it is just too expensive. Now, a casting cost of 4 CMC would be a different story.
Bottom line: 6 CMC limits his usefulness and viability in Legacy and competitive decks.
And yes, it needs more cow bell.

You're not nearly as funny, or as clever, as you think you are. Anyone using Captain of the Watch, who has 6 CMC to pay, is most likely going to have some kind of Glorious Anthem card, or some other +1/+1 type Enchantment, out on the Battlefield. They're probably also going to have some Soldier beef-up cards on the Battlefield too (such as Daru Warchief or Veteran Armorsmith). At the very least, they'll have an Instant +X/+X in their hand. Lightning Bolt is a good card - there's no denying that - but by your statements, it's as if you assume your opponent will have NOTHING else in his or her hand or on the Battlefield. Please.
This card is phenomenal! It is fair-costed, and well-balanced.

"It's just what I suspected: a big fat hermaphrodite with a flock of seagulls haircut and only one nostril..." I love cards like this, non-simple non-complex cards that are fun to play and easy to kill but removal resistant. They're effects are powerful and unique in a way that her getting Lightning Bolted may lose you the game since all of your creatures just ran up and she's a smoldering crater back by the Wall of Denial reminds me of Thelon of Havenwood for fungus decks and she's worth her weight (which I won't ask her) in mana. Doing well in a solider deck or a control deck this beauty know how to please a man. (lololol)
Cards not overpowered but cool looking fun to play and exactly their rarity like her deserve a 5/5
Hey you can't have that! That snorkel been just like a snorkel to me!
This monstorous card is my favourite white card from M10 with unlimited possibilties in any Soldier Tribal Deck. I have used him with Porcelain Legionnaire to creat a Vigilant first striker and with Honor Of The Pure also on the field you know this match is going to end fast :-) 5/5

I'm really glad the designers started making the tribes better and more powerful. Without them, I wouldn't be able to figure out how to make cards work well together.
@DarthMohawk1 Instead of going through all the trouble of casting three additional creatures for ten total mana to give Captain of the Watch and her wingmen +1/+1 and first strike, you can get all that for only three mana and one card in the form of Field Marshal. (True, his is a world effect, but what are the odds you'll be going up against another soldier deck?)
On another note, this card is amazing; creature advantage is often key in Magic, and a card that buffs all your creatures plus giving you three more to boot is flabbergasting. This one card has enough behind it to be able to turn the tide of battle in a lot of instances or transform your already powerful army into a tidal wave in others. Throw all she has to offer on top of white's trademark universal buffs, and she goes from from powerful to "Hold onto you butts..."
Six mana is on the higher end, but four creatures with vigilance and a combined total P/T of 9/9 makes her more than worth the cost. But even if her price tag still dissuades you, you can add cost reducers that still keep with the tribal theme; dropping a Ballyrush Banneret on turn two will inherently let you cast a Daru Warchief on turn three, permitting you to cast this bad girl on turn four. In that instance, you'd have four 3/4's, a 4/4, and a 4/5; enough to kill your opponent next turn if you can do a full swing, and with an Oblivion Ring or some Path to Exiles to help clear the way, you're looking at an easy turn-five win.
The only way this could get better is if she had some form of protection, but that would be asking too much from an already fantastic card. (And white has ways of doing that already.) I've got no reason not to give this card a 5 out of 5; I'll definitely remember her if I ever procure the resources to build a white human soldier (or human soldier ally (trollface))/angel deck.
