This makes the 6th renamed reprint in the set. This is merely a Dreg Reaver, renamed and reprinted. Both are zombies, so there's no creature typing there, so what's the purpose of making an entirely "new" card a set after the first was printed that's a replica in all but name?

They changed Dreg Reaver to Mr. Goliath here because they thought a Zombie would be more identifiable and resonant than a Reaver. Wizards wanted M10 to be a good intro to what people who aren't too familiar with fantasy already know about it, like zombies, centaurs, and simple yet powerful spell concepts like Lightning Bolt, Sleep, and Rise from the Grave...the chances are simply better that a layman will latch onto the idea of a giant zombie than that of a Dreg Reaver.
Either way, though, it doesn't really matter, as the pair of them are pretty much worthless outside of Limited.

Flavor text makes this card... 1.5 for me. Replaced by the wholly better Rotting Legion already. Maybe if you needed a Zombie to be a Giant at the same time, it would be useful.

This is one of those cards that was designed for Limited with not much use intended for it beyond that.
It is what it is. Still, Zombie Goliath is one of the coolest names in Magic.
