Finally a good spider thats actually playable. It can take out flyers and just about any other creature.

Very strong common, especially for green which needs removal.

It's pretty ridiculous that this is the first spider card to actually have a venom mechanic.

Agreed. An insane common for green. He really scares a lot of enemies. If he attacks, they won't normally block him and while he's untapped, they won't send in their strong creatures either. They'll often have to waste a removal to get rid of him, and to most decks, he's not really a big lost. Oh and reach is just great on him.

Very good card concidering it's low cost. I can see this actually being a must have for a forest deck, but I'll avoid making that comment for now.
Concidering the amount of Spiders out there, if one was to make a Spider themed deck, this would definitely have to be in it. At least 3 of these in a Spider-deck would keep you from spending too much mana, but also allow you to get rid of big creatures later on in a battle. (Also, it can help to get rid of those pesky strong fliers ;D)

I love this card. Great deterrent while you get your fatties out. Perfect spot on the mana curve. To me, this is one of the standout commons of the set.

Awesome card. Early game defender that has just the right amount of toughness and can blast away almost anything that hits it.

I was so thrilled when I first saw this card. I loved Thornweald Archer and this is almost the same, perhaps slightly better! Love it, love it love it!

A beautiful two drop!! :D

It won't help you in limited, but this guys is begging for the good old Lure.
Reach is really what makes this guy amazing for a CC of 2. Being able to obliterate any flyer that is coming your way is pretty amazing.

============================================================================ "It's pretty ridiculous that this is the first spider card to actually have a venom mechanic." ============================================================================ Ive been thinking the same thing. Its pretty absurd that spiders dont do something like give poison counters or have deathtouch by default. Deadly Recluse is what spiders should have been all along. Toss in a Swarmyard to regenerate and you have a winner.
Reach and death touch for 2CMC, definitely an awesome creature, puts most of the other spiders to shame.

@ donjohnson & mike_stubbs1
This is sort of true,
But they did get it pretty close with Juvenile Gloomwidow, I felt.
But yeah, this card is one hell of a two-drop.
While you're storing up mana,
Your opponent has to think of the consequences of swinging.
It's not a game-breaker, but a very welcomed addition.

I actually do have a tribal spider deck, and this guy is the bread and butter
Makes your opponent hesitant to attack, awesome for chip damage, and once he ends up with a Blanchwood Armor or Alpha Status he's just beastly
This guy is my baby. I run him in almost every Green deck I make for casual, and is in at least my SB in every Green Pauper deck I make.

It's a crime this wasn't reprinted in 2011. This guy was awesome for green.

Yea, this guy was bred and raised to specifically to kill Storm Crow. Sort of a reprint of Tangle Asp - the reach makes it more able to kill anything that comes its way, but the reliance on damage rather than simply blocking means it can't be comboed with Valor Made Real.
On another note, this new printing policy of making up new cards for each core set is retarded. This guy came out of nowhere, stuck around for a year, and now he's gone forever?

Probably the best attempt yet at creating a viable anti-air creature for green.
...and so they decided not to reprint it in M11. =|

Allows you to stabilize instantly against aggressive decks and will scare away almost every creature in the game, including Emrakul, for 2 measly mana. One of the best walls in the game, and will certainly buy you time for all that ramping you were planning on doing.

They probably didn't print this in M11 because they printed Plummet. Granted, Plummet is a solid card, but this has a lot more green flavor to it and would have interacted well with some of the stuff in Standard. Genesis Wave puts this into play, for example, and Green Sun's Zenith can fetch it if you really need to.
It's also an excellent rattlesnake card for multiplayer. If you have the choice of throwing a dragon at a board that has one of these or a board that doesn't, which are you going to pick?

2012 needs this back - not that green has been hurting for great cheap creatures/spells, mind.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.7/5.0)(6 votes)
@ Zulp It doesn't scare off Emrakul, because Emrakul has protection from colored spells. Ergo, it can't be blocked by colored creatures. but, if you pump it up, they might have to decide between damage and losing a blocker, like Emrakul
Keiya
★★☆☆☆ (2.5/5.0)(1 vote)
@CrowJonSnow: Emrakul's "Protection from colored spells" ability does not prevent anything in regards to creatures; therefore, it can still be blocked by Deadly Recluse and die. However, if a creature has protection from green, such as Progenitus, Deadly Recluse would be unable to block or inflict damage to that creature.

By all accounts I've heard, this is the favorite of the core set spiders. Never heard a bad word about this venomous villein.

This card is best friends with accorder's shield. T2 drop this, T3 drop shield and equip for a surprise vigilance swing. Now its got a big enough butt to dodge most burns and survive combat, while pecking there life total and being a scary reach blocker.
