Mind Rot cries itself to sleep at night knowing it can never measure up to this card. Fearsomely powerful disruption.

I couldn't even play mind rot knowing how utterly inferior it (and just about every other discarder) is to this beast. How is it that Fallen Empires could see this printed, in the same set as the likes of Homarid

No kidding! Fallen Empires is almost entirely horrible creatures and equally horrible enchantments. The very few sorceries/instants include this monster, Goblin Grenade, and Dwarven Catapult which are the only two removal spells of any kind!

Aaaah. I still laugh at my friends discard deck for not running these.

Devastating card from an absurdly underpowered set.

I thought this card was banned for years, still think they shouldn't be run in casual, just too nasty.

Hey, Fallen Empires has it's fair share of playable cards.
Of course, there are very few STELLAR cards in there.

by far my favorite card. 5 stars. this is up there with mind twist.
@bonerot, i agree. i really liked fallen empires. i try to work order of the ebon hand and order of leitbur into my decks now and then because the artwork kicks so much butt and they're underrated. first strike, pumping, and protection from blah. so awesome.
hymn to tourach is insane though. look at the top 8 vintage decklists from any time between 1995 and now... this will be in one of those decks. and it's from fallen empires. so weird.

Best art for a Hymn to Tourach -- the printing for Fallen Empires doesn't even do the original art justice (because it's less colorful on the card). There's a computer-wallpaper sized version of the art on Etsy:
This, Order of the Ebon hand, and Soul Exchange made playing black so awesome in Fallen Empires. You even had a Basal Thrull sitting around just so you could sacrifice it to play this card when all your lands were tapped and your opponent thought they were safe.
My favourite turn 1 play when running discard is a zero drop creature (like phyrexian walker or something), culling the weak, and two of these. my opponent usually doesn't recover from that.

I like to compare this with Counterspell.
