With landfall, its ability will be more useful then normally, but kinda expensive ability otherwise.

4 mana is too expensive for a tapped land.

I'm guessing this will be used a lot in EDH. It's comparable to Journeyer's Kite but in creature form. The extra gets you a land in play tapped rather than in your hand.

I believe its rather good since its ability can be used continuously

i actually think this card is rather good, because for 4 mana, you can at anytime its untapped grab ANY type of land, not just forest, and basic land. which can be a life saver for multi-colored decks, and while some spells for 3 mana may put a land into play ONCE, this care can be used every turn.

It would be nicer if it's casting cost was something like and it's ability cost was too...

A decent EDH card. Rampant growth on a stick is pretty good. Way too slow for anything else though.

This card becomes waayyy more useful with training grounds. :)

My fav is Skyshroud Ranger for lands, but this one may be useful in 5 color G.

Deckthinning is one of my favorite things to do. I never enjoy drawing land after useless land when I already have plenty in. I want to pull them out and up my chances of drawing something I can use each turn. Of course Abundance is really handy too...

This guy got added to my Green Beast deck with Elvish Archdruid, mostly due my suprising lack of Elf cards to power up the Archdruid...
However, I've found him surprisingly useful. Thinning out your deck at instant speed while spitting out land shouldn't be sneezed at. I think this would be rated higher except for everyone looks at the card and thinks "landfall", rather than "deck-thinning, mana-ramp"
Try it out, he'll feed into elf abilities when you need it, and fetch land at the end of turns when you don't plan on doing anything else.

It's rather expensive, but good for landfall effects on someone else's turn (e.g. Adventuring Gear and can be hit at the end of opponent's turn if you haven't used the mana.

I have to say... this is probably the most androgynous creature in the game. I think it has boobs, but I also think it has a slightly masculine face... so I remain confused. Professor Oak would be very confused as well.

A lot are saying this is good in EDH but I seriously disagree. How many times are you actually going to use this ability? Probably just once or twice, maybe three times if you just haven't got anything else to do (by the time you're at 6+ mana you should). It's also terribly inefficient, and although that isn't always as much of concern in EDH it does still matter when you're paying 4 mana for a Rampant Growth. The low casting cost and the high activation cost means it does not scale especially well.
If you only ever use it twice you will have spent and achieved as much as an Explosive Vegetation. At three activations Seedguide Ash would have done pretty much the same thing (with a better creature body) for almost a third of the cost. If you actually end up using it four times, investing a total of 18 mana to do so, you could have opted to instead play three Primeval Titans (yeah I know I'm talking EDH but this is to compare value). This does not become a good deal at any point.
If you want land ramp on elves there are way better choices. Wood Elves, Farhaven Elf, and Viridian Emissary are all far more efficient even if not immediately repeatable. This card may look appealing for that reason, but once you play with it and realize you either activate Frontier Guide's ability or get some actual board presence, Frontier Guide will be neglected, and you will have spent a lot of mana for little payoff.

It can be useful as a combo with landfall or Training Grounds as pointed out by OutlawD1 and Ph1005. Other than combos however, this card is really hard to play. Do you really want 4 mana tied up every turn fetching a land? It seems better just to use Cultivate to grab your lands one turn and be done with it.
And also as Pinto331 said, it's not even good in commander. The bottom line is that, barring some kind of specific combo, there are just better ways to accomplish whatever goal you have in mind for this card.
