it has to cost more than three, but twice as much? come on. should have been 4 cmc, maybe thats too strong but could have uped green or added white

Should have made it RRGG or so. As it stands now, the thing will never see serious play.

Definitely have to agree with it costing too much. It's quite the handy ability, but it just can't stand on its own as it is. It looks like a cascade card at first glance, they could have powered it down a little and given it cascade to help ease the pain of the casting cost. Oh well, it's still quite the draft card.

It is really pricey, but if you have another copy in your graveyard you can get 6 damage for 6 mana, plus choose another target with the second copy.
Great with Broodmate Dragon.

I think it's just one mana too expensive from being awesome. But I still like what it does. 3,5/5

Easy to swing the cost when you can do up to and over 10 damage with it easy in a fattie deck

Goes without saying that it's way too expensive. It could easily be a gamewinner in the late game, but who wants to hold this thing until then?

The only time I could see myself using this is with where ancients tread, for some massive burn on one turn. What really destroys this card for me though is the exiling part. If I could play another spell to use it from my graveyard, or unearth it, or whatever, I'd be much happier, and the mana cost would make a little bit more sense. Even better the bringing a card back from graveyard part could have been a kicker cost, and the card could have done like 3 and no regeneration for 3, and then return a creature for 6. That would have been good too.

2 copies used in the 1st place deck in the Magic Online Championship Series Season 2 Championship (ALA Block Constructed) on 05/30/2009. Expensive but very strong: Kill a creature and return one to your hand for one card.

If it didn't exile itself, 2 of them would be almost like being able to fireball every turn.

Use this card in a deck that also has white, you could use Pull from Eternity to put it back into your graveyard to target it with another Vengeful Rebirth.

Why not simply put it
"Return target card from your graveyard to your hand. ~ deals damage equal to that card's converted mana cost to target creature or player.
Exile ~.
"
Excluding land cards from the second effect is kind of redundant - of course their cmc will be zero and deal no damage...

As I palmed my freshly mailed copy of the card my friend read the text of one of it's duplicates, he looked up to see me eying hisDraco, which he quickly responded to by smashing a bottle over my head for even having the thought.

i run of these in my naya token/mana acceleration deck, where mana is easy to come by. using these to return a titanic ultimatum or to get back a destroyed mana reflection is vastly amusing

As with a lot of 2-for-1 cards, it has a lot of potential. Having said that, at least in standard most decks top off at 6 or 7 mana for their win conditions. While this can win the game with the right card in your graveyard and the opponent on low enough health, it's not close to being a win condition on its own.

Having said that, it's multicoloured spot removal that can still hit Great Sable Stag which is a big plus. Use it to get a Bit Blast out of your graveyard and you're looking at a 5 damage burn, 4 damage creature spot removal and 1-2 cascades. It could definitely work, but again, has the big drawback of relying on other cards to become decent.

DEFINITELY Going to put a couple of these in an Eldrazi deck, bring back one of those beasts and hit them with anywhere from 8-12 damage? Along with a good amount of mana acceleration I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.

the great thing is it costs six mana. i love it when my opponents think they've injured me by making me dsicard it or something only to find that i bring it back with another one and put 6 damage in their face >:D most opponents pale when i use this with bogarden hellkite

Also works well in Naya control with invincible hymn

You want this at 4 cmc? In block? Think of the madness that would result when combined with cascade for Enlisted Wurm and Butiminous Blast. I truly believe that is the sole reason the cmc is so high. Nice spell though. Cascade would still work with Enigma Sphinx but the mana tricks required are just ugly..

this is amazing with dream halls and conflux.

for casual play, this + gleemax is death.

Also, why did they place the "if you return a nonland card to your hand" qualifier on this card? Lands already have a CMC of 0.

It kind of HAS to cost this much. Think of Draco, Darksteel/Blightsteel Colossus, or loads of other 10+ CMC creatures. It'd be easy in a deck that uses CMCs for damage (via other cards as well of course) to pull 10+ damage, so a CMC of 4ish seems a bit perposterous. 5 CMC maybe, but 6 still doesn't treat it too badly with all that colorless. You could always use on of many many avenues to cast this turn 3-4, like cloudposts, saccing tokens to ashnod's alter, channel, etc.

It's a little more work but colorless mana is easy to come by. A single custodian on turn 2 means casting this turn 3 with a sac outlet of some kind. It's quite easy to make this an abusable card. Further with HUGE colorless monstrosities available in your hand you could opt to instead try to hard cast one as a secondary play.

So you remember that Gleemax? Well...

What a fun card. I like how spells like this and Riddle of Lightning don't even care about actually playing high cost spells - they simply use them as a means of shooting the enemy for a ton of damage.

Don't underestimate this card. I regularly combo this with Walker of the Grove as a finisher in my R/G. Evoke WoG for a 4/4 token, then Vengeful Rebirth ASAP for 8 damage. If that doesn't end it, there's still an option to 8-drop WoG if you go into the long game. Lots of nasty combo options here.
