Great spell, deals with Finks and the gang. Also sets up some nice tricks, since its effect lasts the whole turn. 4/5.

It looks like a Shock that could have been designed in the Kamigawa block. Obviously nasty against recursion/persist creatures.

A way to cripple those persist creatures and early game creatures..afraid of Hellspark Elemental? Im sure that bolt of elemental cant stand a magma...and a good way to neutralize early game creatures... i run four in my mono-red aggro burn deck an some Yamabushi's Flame and Yamabushi's Storm and Relic of Progenitus... my opponent doesnt have anything in his/her graveyard...

Good burn, but anti-synergistic with a lot of the Jund cards that want cards to go to the graveyard like Rockslide Elemental, in which case you'd probably be better off with a plain Shock.

Sorry Shock. Between this recursion hoser and Lightning Bolt being reprinted I think you will be a very sad burn spell for the foreseeable future.

If only is stopped regeneration too. Then it would be a very, very useful card.

Attention dudes and duddetes, this isn't a shock with a tacked on exile. It only targets Creatures, so it's not stricktly better...

You'd be surprised how many cards there are with a toughness of only 1 or 2 that can really screw up how your deck runs (Just off the top of my head: Dosan the Falling Leaf, Samurai of the Pale Curtain, Ethersworn Canonist...). Magma Spray is a good way to make sure that they're not only gone, but they're not coming back.

An Eldrazi-killer maybe?

I see it as much more useful than Shock in the SB for recurring threats. Especially Bloodghast.

Sideboard against rdw. Very useful card in jund imo. 4*/5

I believe there is a much older card that combines the best of this card and lightning bolt. looking up now....

ah yes. here we are:

Carbonize- 2R
instant
Magma Spray for 3 damage

but wait, there's more!

Disintegrate- XR
Instant
Magma Spray for X, cant regenerate.

look em up yourselves if you dont believe me.

Play with Flame Slash -- 2 mana to deal 6 damage and exile a creature.

Yeah, it's no surprise that this saw a lot of play.

"If that creature would die this turn..."

Jeez, it's going to take a while to get used to seeing that.

@Darth
Or you could just autocard them.
Carbonize
Disintegrate

But Carbonize has a 1:1 damage/mana ratio which is usually substandard in Red, and no where near Lightning bolt

Disintergrate is a typical Blaze spell, Red has many floating around. But for a more recent version there is Red Sun's Zenith. Just replace the 'regen' with the 'shuffle' ability, which I think is better for Red anyways.

Strictly better than Pillar of Flame.

Sigh.... this can't hit players. Good try, though.
