Looks like a black Oblivion Ring with the added bonus of keeping all of the target creatures attachments, sweet!

I actually consider it to be considerably worse. Oblivion Ring can get rid of planeswalkers, enchantments, etc. Also, why would you want to preserve their counters and auras anyway? I'd rather them just go the graveyard/disappear in the case of the counters.

This card can be used to exile your only and ostensibly important creature, say Serra Ange or Baneslayer Angel, and then allow you to cast/play Balance (in Vintage, Casual, etc.).

Yes, at face value it helps your cre and all the junk you threw on it, but I suppose what the designers had in mind was the potential super specific plays you can combine with this... this is a kind of card that can be very sneaky... I think they had the right idea, which is basically creating an enchantment that can exile and return card but the drawback is the comes into play/battlefield... that's a big drag, but relative to when it first was printed I'd say not bad... it's cards like this that must have played their part in the games development and progress to some really amazing enchantments out there...

so for the moment, here's to a card that's a bit in exile itself.

Now as for the card itself- the artwork.. ah, this card is doomy looking, excellent feel.

This is the precursor to Journey to Nowhere.

No one has commented yet that this is one of the few RELIABLE removal spells that black has. It is better to play this than Assassinate, Dark Banishing, etc, because it can target that many more threats more often. Comparing a black removal spell to the cheap white ones is really unfair. This card compares closest I think to Unmake, however the 1BB instead of BBB makes it far easier to cast if you are playing Wasteland or other colorless lands like Mishra's Factory. Also, it gets around protection from white unlike Unmake.

If somebody Oubliettes your Serra, can you just have her give Hoggle a bracelet to get her out?

black oblivion ring that phases a target instead of exiles it (essentially).

Noticed the Oracle Rulings reads "rxiledd" instead of exiled, lol.

Yeah, thats much less complicated than 'target creature phases out, if Oubliette leaves play it phases back in'

Oh don't act so smart. You don't even know what an oubliette is.
Do you?
Yes. It's a place you put people... to forget about 'em!

Nice for hiding stuff, especially since it saves counters. Maybe in an arcbound deck? You were going to run four Vault of Whispers in it anyway...

Next person that compares this to Oblivion Ring gets Obliterated. Seriously. It is not a good comparison.

Oblivion Ring was inspired by this card. True story.

They should use the technology from Skullbriar, the Walking Grave to have the card keep its counters while exiled.

Two versions of this card that look exactly the same... until you look at the 1 colourless in the casting cost.

Any card that has "Hence" in the text is a-ok in my book

Aside from the text being nigh unreadable, I really like this card. flavor is wonderfully creepy.
Very flexible, and it can feasibly save one of your creature while you Black Sun's Zenith and not lose any +1/+1 counters on it.
I use Sedraxis Alchemist with Nightveil Specter for returning Oubliette

Also offers more options for spot removal than Murder.

I think what everybody seems to be forgetting is that this is one of the extremely few cards that exile something, but lets it keep all the stuff on it. This makes it an amazing card just by that alone. That is more for plays on your own stuff, but another important thing if you use it on an opponent's creature, that creature returns tapped, so it can't block or it can't attack if it has haste.
