Just play Corrosive Mentor if you just care about granting your own black creatures wither.

2 power for a CMC 2 artifact creature is not a bad deal.

I agree with 2/1 for 2 is not a bad deal; but if you want wither for 2 mana get a Blight Sickle.

You could play Corrosive Mentor...but then where's the trauma? The artwork on this thing is just plain frightening and it looks like you could build one if you wanted. Combo with Fling, because if someone threw this at my face I'd probably die of fright.

It's okay with something akin to Darkest hour and then cards like Melira, Sylvok Outcast, or the scarecrows' very own Tatterkite, to protect your own creatures. Even better then that you can give wither to your own creatures in addition to that. Not amazing, but could be a powerful combo piece in a scarecrow tribal.
