I like how hybrid cards sometimes enable certain colors abilities from other colors without having to pay the accordant mana.
This creature for example is, along with Ghastlord of Fugue, the only unblockable creature that can be put in a monoblack deck.

This was my favorite card I got from the Shadowmoore release other then my Grim Poppet. this card has only effected me negatively when I was in a pinch and could not block with him...other wise my friend Jake always got frustrated when I summoned Inkfathom...

Drop a Helm of the Ghastlord on this fellow and watch your opponent weep. Actually you could make a very effective deck with these guys, Ghastlord of Fugues, the aforementioned aura and removal/discard/draw spells.

If for no other reason, this card is really amazing because its unblockable. The amount of unblockables in the entire game are rather low, going along with aether figment and phantom warrior (both of which are blue only and not quite as powerful while costing more mana). Would go very well in a deck that uses rogues because its entirely unblockable and is a merfolk and a rogue sub type. Pair with glen elendra liege for 2 mana 4/3 unblockables.

Oona's Blackguard likes this card, as does the prowl mechanic in general.

Creature efficiency? In black? And it's NOT a knight? Dear lord. The only thing that came close to unblockable in mono-black was the Shadow mechanic- that pretty much spells unblockable 90% of the time.

One of my favourite Magic cards ever. Also one of my favourite looking creatures.

Was in the very first theme deck I purchased, and I made a whole deck based around unblockable creatures. Oh, and it works fine with Snake Cult Initiation.

It's interesting when you think about the fact that this creature CANNOT engage in combat...
Also in Ninja colors and very good with them.

That's funny! A creature that can't engage in combat with other creature... Quite a unique creature! You shouldn't never block with it (only in some extreme situation), so its drawback doesn't hinder anything.
2/1 unblockable for 2CMC is quite right...! I like it!

4/5 because its 1 thoughtness makes it quite fragile...

@supershawn It's out there buddy. It's out there.

I love this baby though, she may be removal bait, but for two mana who cares!

A hero in my Rogue deck. Loves to party with the Blackguard.

@dign, Not completely. 2 damage per turn is significantly more than 1 damage per turn, Merfolk is a legitimate tribe, and this can be played in monoblack. In many situations I would much rather run this than those two (though I do admit that those are both great cards).
