This card just seems too good. Any RW deck will have first strike almost whenever it desires. And getting this card later in the game, lets it show off its ability to survive on its on, creating an quick deadly force.
Not to mention if it's countered, you're not out X+2 mana, only 2. Card is even better for that reason.

Play Thunder-Thrash Elder after creating a bunch of goblins, then Scourge of the Nobilis the Thunder-Thrash Elder, and you could have some serious Lifelink. Indestructibility would also be nice.

Answer: Yes. The Token creating effect triggers when the card enters play, not when it's cast.

It triggers every time it comes into play. That means Venser, the Sojourner can soon amass his own huge goblin army with it.
Combos amazingly with reconnaissance. You can attack with all your tokens and pull any that would die out of combat after blockers have been declared, so the rest of the tokens get through. Then, once damage has been done, pull out the rest of your creatures, essentially giving them vigilance.
This isn't even counting the first strike ability, which combos stupidly well with reconnaisance, since you an deal first strike damage and then remove creatures from combat.
