Looks great, until your opponent plays a trampler.

Beacon of Destiny is cheaper and takes lava axes, but this guy tries to sponge the whole team of Rampaging Baloths... with the right cards he will have great success, too.

@psyklone Why would a trampler be a problem? just let the trampler hit you (unblocked) and use the tap effect to redirect the damage... im not seeing the problem here

@Duskdale_Wurm

Unless they bounce or exile or reduce toughness to 0, or burn you directly, or just stall the game until you are milled, or they actually mill you

But yes, almost complete lock

strictly worse than Veteran Bodyguard

Ahh yes, the balance-adjusted Veteran Bodyguard. Strictly worse, especially in multiplayer games, but to be fair Veteran Bodyguard is pretty damn amazing.

Great synchronicity with Sacred Boon, Test of Faith, Temper, and Scars of the Veteran (using the last one as such was colloquially known as "Scars of the Veteran Bodyguard").

@Hokeymon: Beacon of Destiny has the disadvantage of only being able to redirect damage from one source at a time. Kjeldoran Royal Guard on the other hand does all unblocked creatures at once. Beacon of Destiny is more appropriate when you keep getting Bolted or something.

@psyklone: Trample only affects damage assignment during blocking. Because the creatures aren't considered blocked the Trample effect never triggers, meaning yes, the Guard will take all the damage from the Trampler.

Not strictly worse than Veteran Bodyguard, since there might be situations where you don't want to redirect the damage, but Bodyguard doesn't give you the choice. For instance, you might have enough life to just take the hits for a few turns, and hope that you get an Indestructibility or Regeneration or whatever before then: You'd hate to lose your dude to soak up one attack, when you could have used him to soak up many attacks.

Or you could just take a 5 damage attack in the middle game, and save this for stopping the 30 damage Overrun that would otherwise have killed you.
