Why is this just a "Wall" creature type, when Wall of Brambles is a Plant Wall?

Agreed, plus this is one of the worst walls in play.
(Colorless) artifacts should normally not be able to get a better P/T ratio than colored cards, yet Steel Wall being a 0/4 one-drop especially shows how weak this creature actually is.
There are other 0/3 creatures at this cost with further abilities, you should not consider playing this one. Tinder Wall, Llanowar Augur and Treefolk Harbinger do a better job, the latter ones not even being walls.

Earnest art director: "This time, you have to paint the Wall of Wood!" I pity Rebecca Guay. ;-)
I wonder if some artists care when they are commissioned to contribute to obviously weak cards, probably not.

You know what? Its okay in a deck full of fat green. It holds off the riff-raff for a couple turns untill you drop a Terra Stomper.

Phyrexian Walker is nearly the same thing but much better. No Defender, so it can attack if it's been pumped. It also costs less.

Wall of Wood had no business being reprinted in 10th edition.

Why not pay 1 more for a Wall of Blossoms and not only get your card back but also move the thing out of Lightning Bolt range? Not a stellar card. 2/5

Strictly worse than Treefolk Harbinger, and soon Wall of Vines.

Also; epic flavor fail for not being a "Creature - Plant Wall".

Strictly worse than Wall of Vines, and I didn't think much of Vines anyway... I always prefer waiting another turn to play a much better Wall of Tanglecord.

Sexy art! That's all it has going for it.

At least it's better than its bastard cousin, Wood Elemental.

Strictly bad. This guy was considered subpar in Alpha. Think about that. 0.5/5

Actually works as pretty decent blocker against an Orcish Lumberjack, but does nothing to prevent the sacrifice of a forest (which is what they're actually used for).

Not sure if this is a flavor win or a flavor fail....

Thing is Wall of Wood doesn't even protect against Orcish Lumberjack...

Why the hell is all the best artwork on rather rubbish cards like this?!
