Yup, this really works with tokens... a one sided Damnation... use two of this in the game with Thraximundar and Deathbringer Thoctar to maximize their full potential...

Also, direct your attention to the killer artwork. The look on that dude's face is just beautifully manic.

This card is so much fun with eldrazi spawn tokens. Sack them for mana, AND to kill your opponent's creatures. And if you have It that Betrays out? WIN!

(Card Rating: 4.0) Grave Pact is always a pleasure to play in a multiplayer format. If your oponent's do not have an answer for an enchantment in thier hand, any strategy they have involving even the most sturdy of creatures (i.e. Progenitus) will be fruitless. In light of the hefty 3 black mana required to cast it, Grave Pact is a rather difficult card to splash. Because having more than one in your hand equates to a dead card, Grave Pact makes my list of superb "one of's". Since you will be already running black, I recommend Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor to make it seem like you are running three in your deck. If you are on a budget, Diabolic Tutor will suffice. In my favorite casual black/red goblin deck, I run 1 Grave Pact along with... 4 Mogg War Marshal, 2 Goblin Chirurgeon, 2 Skirk Prospector, and 1 Tuktuk the Explorer to ensure fodder plus an instance speed FREE sac. engine. I also run 1 Goblin Warrens to 99% ensure an opponent will NOT have a creature on the board! A Phyrexian Tower also works well to supply the sacrifice engine and black mana needed. On a side note, the artwork for the 8th edition version is fantastic. Check it out! (Posted By: Misago)

Grave Pact was fair in the tournament sense - it appeared as a sideboard tech in some tier-2 Zombie decks. But just play one / have one played against you in semi-casual, even, and it suddenly becomes the most unfair card ever. As long as the Grave Pact deck is filled with enough copies of things like Rotlung Reaminator, Spawning Pit, Pawn of Umalog and the like, the enchantment basically reads: Destroy all creatures you don't control, and destroy each creature you don't control as it enters the battlefield. It spelt game over against too many decks, while at the same time leaving you with a weak deck (with all the token creatures) when you don't draw it. Fair in the win-percentage sense, sure, as the tournaments showed... but still, that is pretty much the recipe of unfun games.

Consider black's massive amount of sacrifice for the sake of powerful effects, or costs for powerful permanents.
This card will affect the game the instant it hits the field.
Your opponent will become reluctant to block.
Your opponent will become reluctant to attack.
Your opponent will be reluctant to use removal (except exiling, of course).
Your opponent will use removal to get rid of this card, if he or she can.
This card is extremely powerful, and could never be in any other colour.
This fits black's theme crazily well:
"This is going to hurt me, but it'll hurt you far more."

Every one is too focused on tokens. Vampire Aristocrat + Blade of the Bloodchief + Reassembling Skeleton + This Card. Now THAT is an evil combo. This is why I love black.
