Sets you back heavily. There are far better 3 drops for black, such as Ashenmoor Gouger.

The very next card I looked at in my pile was a Warpath Ghoul. I threw that in my deck instead.

uhhhh..... even by the time this expansion came out, 3/3 for a vanilla creature was not good costing.
The design team must REALLY hate cyclopses, to make so many of them inordinately suck.

Although this card is terrible without any possible argument otherwise. It was from future sight and I may be incorrect but wasn't the point of future sight to give us an idea as to where they were heading and things they were gonna try out? The mechanic is decent, the obvious issue applys that this should link to creatures like the eldrazi to even out a high power/toughness on a creature with low mana cost. The way they worked death's shadow is a good example as to how this mechanic could've been utilized. But this card still sucks horrifically

I don't know, guys. It's a scry stapled to an undercosted creature that swings for 3 the following turn. I frankly have no idea how you guys hate this card so much.

Warpath Ghoul has less versatility. Even if this thing gets killed by what you flip over, it's still a body in your 'yard and some topdeck manipulation. And. . . black kind of has cheap ways to recur its goofy guys. I'd play it in limited; 1/3 of the time, it's just going to see a land anyway.

This isn't terrible, and was actually pretty good costing back in Future Sight. It's a perfectly good 3/3 for 3 mana as long as it survives, and it's good topdecking even if it doesn't. I don't no why you guys are hatin.

Three mana for a 3/3 isn't that good anymore. Also it has the chance of killing itself depending on the scry. It's like it comes out and plays russian roulette as its ability. >.>
Terrible card for a legacy card.

I'm not going to play a 3/3 that wants me to toss my better cards

Okay guys... cut him some slack..
1. It's common so expecting it to be a 6/6 for {3} or any of the other things is just ridiculous. 2. If you need a land next turn he can make sure that happens, if you really need that top card or need to dig deeper (at a gamble) he dies... 3. He can trigger enters the battlefield effects, such as Carnival of Souls (not exactly groundbreaking but still in {B} ) 4. He can trigger graveyard effects for {2}{b}, such as Grave Pact 5. Relevent creature type - Zombie 6. It's a 3/3 for {3} at common, with a unique ability, take it or leave it.

This card is good. He essentially allows you to see the next two cards you are going to draw stapled to an on-curve body. He's not as bad as everyone thinks.
You guys are so mean to this poor crying Polyphemus, he's not even that bad!

To the people trying to defend this mess: If the card you reveal has a CMC higher than 2, you won't HAVE a 3/3 for 3. You will get to eat shit.

Scry in with a (very good) possibility for a decent body with a relevant creature type.
In a Modern zombie deck, wouldn't you want to have Bob and a low curve? This'll let you scry and see the next card to plan for the Confidant upkeep trigger. If you have a Zombie lord on the field and your curve tops out at three, you're guaranteed to never lose the Putrid Cyclops. And it's not like your opponent will be surprised to see your deck has zombies and swamps. (Caveat: I've never actually played with a Dark Confidant, so this is just speculation. I'm starting to play Modern at the FNM level, but I'm not keen on dropping $75 for a single card just yet.)
This seems far more interesting than Warpath Ghoul and superior to it in some decks. It's a fun Johnny card.
@TheWrathOfShane: You posted too early. After Born of the Gods, you could've said, "Dies to Eye Gouge." : )
@wholelottalove: It's not a Legacy card. It was first printed in Time Spiral.
@kajillion: You think "better" and "higher-mana-cost" are synonyms? There are many times even late in a game you will be better off drawing a Doom Blade or the last Swamp you need rather than a Griselbrand.
@DragonShinzui: No, you'll have a scry and a peek at the next card. You'll have an ETB trigger, you'll have a death trigger. You'll have a zombie creature card in the graveyard. You won't have to eat shit unless you enjoy that kind of thing, and please don't do it at the game table.
