When you use it on a creature, does that creature return to play every time it dies? Or just the next time it dies?

this doesnt specify "from play" or from battlefield" Can i tap and return to play from a creature going from lib. to graveyard?

A creature card in the library is not a "creature," it's a spell. So no, you can't pull creature cards from libraries with this.

You're wrong, Ludovici. But you're as well, PhyrexianEditor.
In any zone except the battlefield, this is considered a "creature card". And only while on the stack, it's a "creature spell".
So discarding a creature card from your hand won't work with Adarkar Valkyrie's ability since it can only target creatures, not creature cards. And even if the ability said "creature card" it won't work, since you can't target cards in hand, only those in a graveyard.

Rulings aside, this is a great creature and the awesome tap ability was added charitably, considering that a 4/5 vigilant flyer for 6 mana is already somewhat decent.
Most of the time much better than a far older angel from this block with a related ability: Seraph.

So could the Valkyrie attack (without tapping due to vigilance), do damage to a creature, and then tap to target it before it goes to the graveyard?

Can you bring something countered to your side?

The only thing the valkyrie can target is a creature on the battlefield, since anywhere else (hand, gy, library etc) they ain't creatures but creature cards. And that ability works only once on the target, since when it dies and returns it's considered to be a new creature with no ties to what happened to it last time it was in play.

Still a great card.
Fun fact: if you have two of these valkyries in play, and someone plays mass removal, you can have your valkyries target each other, so that they'll both return once the mass removal spell resolved.

@Luke: Yes and no. You can nab the creature, but you have to do it before the combat damage is dealt, since that doesn't use the stack anymore. Here's how it goes:

Combat Phase --> Each player then gets priority --> Declare Attackers, declaring (at least) Adarkar Valkyrie --> Each player then gets priority again --> Declare Blockers, where your opponent declares whatever creature(s) he wants that can block it --> And again each player then gets priority, so now that you know what he's blocking with, you can tap the Valkyrie and target the blocker --> Combat Damage Step, if the blocker dies you get it. If it doesn't die, the effect lasts until end of turn even if Valkyrie doesn't survive combat, so you can follow up with an instant or sorcery in your Second Main Phase to nab that creature.

Hello,

I have 2 questions about this card do to a recent set of games I played. The scenario goes as followed:

The opponent players plays the Adarkar Valkyrie, ends turn.

I play a "Phyrexian Metamorph" (When it enters the battlefield you may have it copy target creature or artifact on the battlefield, it is an artifact in addition to its other types) and copy his Adarkar Valkyrie, end turn,

(A Couple turns pass)

The opponent plays a spell to clear the board (debate begins)

So my questions are the following:

1) Can my Phyrexian Metamorph be targeted by the Angels tap ability?(the angel states "target creature other than Adarkar Valkyrie is put into the graveyard" and my Pryrexian Metamorph is a copy of the Angel) Does my artifact also take the Angels name thus preventing it from being targeted by the ability?

2) Also what happens when both players target the same card? Which player get priority to the targeted card and who would control it when it is returned?

When a creature is sacrificed, does it count as it dieing?
This would be great in m Replica deck if it did.

@archar

1) Yes, the Metamorph has the name "Adarkar Valkyrie" as well. When you "copy" a card, it gains all copyable text and variables (this being name, mana cost , card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty). so it cannot target itself.

2) To my understanding, this would simply depend on who the active player is; All the rulings I can find simply state that it's active-nonactive on triggered effects. So active player's is put on, then the inactive. Top of the stack resolves, the non-active player gets the creature and the active player's effect does nothing. I guess it works that way since the effect needs to return the creature to the battlefield, and that can't happen since it's already on the battlefield? Still not 100% on that though.

@ TrueBloodWolf

Yes, a creature that is sacrificed dies, and yes the Valkyrie's ability would trigger.

@Archar: To answer your first question, whenever a card uses its own name, it means "this permanent". It doesn't mean "any card named Adarkar Valkyrie". If one player had two Adarkar Valkyries, and someone else destroyed them both at the same time (possibly with Wrath of God), they could target each other, and return each other to the battlefield. So yes, your opponent could target your Phyrexian Metamorph named Adarkar Valkyrie. And your Metamorph could target his Valkyrie.

As for question 2, the last ability on the stack will be the first to resolve. The ability lower on the stack will do nothing, because it can't be put from the graveyard onto the battlefield if it isn't in the graveyard. Also the active player always gets priority first and can activate abilities first, but that's not necessarily a good thing, because if a non-active player plays something on top of that, it'll resolve first.

This card is simply a masterpiece, all things considered: stunning art, interesting and usable mechanics, multi-faceted with flying, vigilance, and high toughness, all at the competitive cost of 4WhiteWhite. She's definitely on my "Favorite Angels of All-Time" list with Lightning Angel, Twilight Shepherd, and of course, Baneslayer Angel.

Magic needs more Valkyries. If they did Kamigawa, why can't they do a Yggdrasil block? Norse mythology is closer to the Magic aesthetic than Japanese mythology anyway. And the nine-worlds thing is right up Wizards' alley (I mean, look at Phyrexia).

EDIT: I love how you can't even type "Japanese" because of the censor. The censor's simplistic parsing is almost as bad as The Gatherer's advanced search parsing.

Wait

Not "you control"?

This is excellent board wipe deterrent. Sure, go ahead, wipe the board, I'll just keep the best creature on it once you're done, kthx

The flying Sun Titan, with tapping as part of activation costs, but can be used as an instant, unlike the Titan. Plus she's able to return any creature as her target, not just CMC 3 or less. The upside to the Titan vs her is that he stays untapped, after attacking and activating his ability. Overall, I see them as close in terms of capabilities, one of the two (the Valkyrie), more geared towards longer games, although not necessarily.

Compared to Gleancrawler, she gets just your best creature, not all of them, but you don't have to get it out if your hand onto the battlefield, again.

Last but not least, you can steal any creature that dies, no matter who owns them.

Question: In a multiplayer game, I control a creature owned by one of my opponents. I get killed/lose the game.

What happens with the creature? Does it go under the control of the owner? Does it go to the graveyard (where I got it from in the first place)? Or something entirely elsewhere?
