The only way this card is worth anything is for things that require cheap artifacts to sacrifice, and flavorwise, because this has a very definite feel of having to wind something before it will function, and I think they did a good job of conveying that. Otherwise, crap.

The flavor on this card is outstanding. Despite how bad the drawback is, I would have liked to seen this expanded upon with a wind-up brass soldier, dragon, etc.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.
Just use it as a blocker, not like you're gonna be doing much damage with a 1/1 flier anyways.

@DaaNz Really? It's meant for constructed play obviously, and it's a colorless flier, which is always relevant. The single colorless mana a turn isnt a terrible price to pay for one danage a turn, not to mention his first free attack. Unlike Brass Man, he can also be relevant late game. If he proves irrelevant just stop untapping him, or leave him untapped to block.
Really not amazing but in lImited there's nothing really wrong with hitting in for one damage a turn. Oh yeah and the art is awesome. 3/5

He's not THIS bad. He's a 1/1 flier for 1, even if you have to pay 1 every time you choose to attack with him. He also avoids tricks that force you to skip your untap step. He's even colorless. 2.5/5.

I remember playing this is a Ninja deck when I was new to Magic. There are better choices, but the Gnat's downside is mostly negated when you're just playing him to enable Ninjutsu. Once M10 hit they pretty quickly dissapeared in favor of Zephyr Sprite, though.
