Well, let's look at this on balance:
Dark Ritual provides BlackBlack.
Culling the Weak provides BlackBlackBlack for any creature sacrificed.
Sacrifice provides more than BlackBlackBlack, given that the sacced creature had a CMC of 4 or greater.
Unless you can come up with cheap creatures despite high mana cost - the only of them i could imagine being those with Affinity - the other two choices will likely be better. And even then, you probably prefer tapping the creature for colorless mana instead.

Run with Scornful Egotist- that's what it's for.

Awesome if you run it in with Affinity.

Underrated on here. This card is very flexible, and paired with virtually any spell with an X casting cost can be a game winner. It can also provide a little extra oomph for pumpable creatures like Frozen Shade or spells like Drain Life.

For those of you saying this card isn't worth it, go look at Cathodion or Su-Chi. Dark Ritual twice first turn into BBBBB, use 4 for Su-Chi, the use the final B for Sacrifice and collect your 4BBBB. Spend it on whatever, I don't care. In vintage that sucks most of the time anyway. But don't complain about this card, it's not insane, but it's not strictly worse than Dark Ritual by any means.

My Lord of the Pit ate all my critters, so I Sacrifice him and Drain Life for the win.

Anybody who hates this card has never had a Pacifism laid on their game-ender within one turn.

Good day to you all! From reading your posts, I believe there are many here who are far more practiced at the accounting of mana costs, for the greatest efficiency in deck design. While I do find that aspect of the game rather challenging, I would offer my observations based on a particular style of deck, as well as the specific deck that I have constructed, in that style. One of my favorite, and long standing designs, is a "Necromancer" deck. It contains many ways to throw things (HUGE THINGS TERRIBLE THINGS, WITH UNSEEMLY MANA COSTS!!), into my graveyard, and bring them out again, at a fraction of the cost to "hard cast" them. After a turn or two of tearing my opponents to shreds, I find that my reanimated minion becomes fatigued, and so I Sacrifice it, to play two or three more spells, bringing onto the field at least two creatures that are just as incredibly dangerous and costly, while still having a little mana left over to fling a Doomblade. Under these very specific circumstances, this spell is extremely effective, and I recommend it most highly. Also, as it is an interrupt, if you have a Pestilence in play (or similar pumpable ability/power), than you can even hold off on using the spell until combat, and then, depending on your opponent's strategy and spells, you may have the opportunity to Sacrifice a creature who was already going to die, and do no damage to your opponent, and turn them into fuel for a dangerous activiated ability of your choosing. Thank you for your attention. :-)

For some reason the lighting made it look like the guy is having his nipple pinched and pulled.
I had to look again and noticed the dagger. The image will be forever embedded in my mind, though.

Use a cheap creature steal spell like Act of Treason or Mind Control to gain control of a creature your opponent controls. Use that creature how you will for the turn, and when you are done with it, sacrifice it before your opponent regains control of it. This is the same concept as the Fling combo, and works just as well depending on your strategy.

I imprinted it on Isochron Scepter just for the flavor of Sacrificing a creature to my awesome power every turn. Stupid, yes. Epic, more yes.

Use this in commander. Steal your opponent's commander and then get mana when you sac it. Talk about a mind screw.

Also, does the man in the illustration have nipples? It would be strange if he didn't.

Strictly funnier than Dark Ritual, and strictly more terrifying. The warm, caring, parental look on the dude with the blade will give you nightmares.

If you're not pairing this with Sneak Attack to Emrakul your way into a mana pool of BlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlackBlack for the cost of RedBlack, then I have to ask... why not? Sneak in an Emrakul, swing for 15 and a board wipe, sac Emrakul to Sac, hardcast a second Emrakul, take an extra turn.

But if you're sacrificing a creature you own, you're really not going full throttle. You might want to grab the reins, take the bull by the horns, whatever.

How odd that this and Healing Salve have the same background.

"As an additional cost to cast Sacrifice, sacrifice a creature."

Always a fun way to start off a text box.
