Should have been called Petrify, to fit better the cycle where this card belongs.

Excellent in legacy formats where lands can be extremely powerful. When putting this in a deck I view it as land destruction that can also take care of a creature if I'm desperate. Maze of Ith, Gaea's Cradle, Dust Bowl, Kor Haven, Cabal Coffers are all reasons to run this if you're playing {B}{R}.

Heh. A ball as a dance party, not as an iron sphere. Nicely done, Wizards.

Card of the Day, December 13th, 2012 Wrecking Ball is instant speed land destruction, of which you don't see much. I think this is probably because some players would try to destroy a land in response it being tapped for mana, which you can't do, and so to avoid the whole confusion, Wizards usually prints sorcery speed LD. The same type of deal goes for instant speed discard, which is also pretty rare (as in, not that common, er, not that frequently appearing on cards...) Nowadays you hardly see any good LD getting printed. There is usually about one spell per set that takes care of lands, and it is usually pretty unplayable. This is sad because there are some pretty outrageous lands out there in standard (I'm looking at you, Cavern of Souls and shocklands). But I guess land destruction just isn't fun. Or even necessary. Just let everyone play 5 colors with no circumstances whatsoever, huh? Oh, and this card destroys creatures, too?
