Aladdin's Lamp is virtually unplayable without using Tinker or some other trick to get it into play without paying its mana cost. For 10 mana, one would expect to get a powerful artifact. Instead, all you get is a clunky library topdeck manipulator. It served one good purpose, however. Every Timmy player has tried to bring the Lamp to life via Animate Artifact. And heck, back in those days nothing could compare to an animated Aladdin's Lamp in terms of power/toughness.

@ Eppek_the_Goblin: Even if the mana cost got reduced by 45 between printings ;)

A massive-cost for an effect that can be found elsewhere for far less. Cool idea, but the initial CC of 10 is insane. Even if you can “cheat” it onto the battlefield, you’re still left with an effect which is a tad underwhelming.

Granted that to cards now are better and cheaper than this one, back in the day this wasn't such a bad card. When mana artifacts were running around i.e. lotus, mox and sol ring and so on, it wasn't uncommon for 10 mana to be accessible. Even more true in multiplayer games. It's not 5/5 but no one. I'm giving it a 2.0. A decent card but like I said back in the day shatters and disencants were big cards so the lamp really didn't stand much of a chance.

Overcosted, but still not a bad card. Playble in EDH with any kind of ramp...basically stacks your deck

How would you like to bash a baneslayer down with a lamp? No im not as crazy as you think i am.. March of the machines makes this a 10/10 killer & for just a few measly mana, master transmuter can kick back the artifact land to your hand & put this bad Lil dude into play. Thinking about gettin a playset of these & master tran. I might do it just to say I done it. Yo..

With Tinker there is better artifacts to find, but in early control deck this was usable, when you had Stasis - Time Elemental lock down and you were just looking the Braingeyser to deck the opponent.

Soothsaying may be an easier option here. While it doesn't let you put cards away from the top, you can start arranging your library early instead of waiting for 10 mana for the Lamp.

The speed of the game changed and left this behind. Matches commonly went over 10 rounds and you were most likely top-decking. After 9 rounds, a repeatable semi-Tutor which shuffled your deck was righteous. Add Energy Tap , or Animate Artifact and it had a place.

The one thing to use this card for: Bludgeon Brawl. Abstract symbols cut you like a knife!

The Arabic *** over the lamp says "wrong" or "danger", with an extra aleph. I guess that makes sense?

EDIT: yeah, I can't say s c r i p t...

@ Gaussgoat

Granted, there is better - but if you're running an infinite mana combo (like Basalt Monlith + Power Artifact), it becomes a decent card - essentially creating a "tutor every turn" card.

Why do people keep saying that early magic games were slower? They weren't. If anything, they were faster -- this was the era in which channel / fireball was a reality.
