Black discard is much more useful than other color discard. tbh

Instant speed discard, weenie removal, an opportunity to make that Hypnotic Specter unblockable. What's not to love?

Put it in your Isochron Stick.

@ScissorsLizard: Sure you can. Which is why this card + Isochron Scepter is such a nasty lock on the opponent, once his handsize hits 0.
504. Draw Step
504.1. First, the active player draws a card. This turn-based action doesn’t use the stack.
504.2. Second, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of the draw step and any other abilities that have triggered go on the stack.
504.3. Third, the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities.

If your opponent has no cards in their hand, you can imprint this on Isochron Scepter and put your opponent in lock down. Just make them discard whatever they draw. Even without that, this card is so versatile and is a great low mana filler.
Not a complete lock. Shatter will end it, but you're right that it's very very hard to get out of. I know, I know, I'm nitpicking. =P

@ultratog10Z8: you can't actually do anything on the draw phase. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can do anything after the draw step until your opponent passes priority, which won't happen until they activate an ability, end their main phase, or play a spell. So, if during their first main phase they want to play the big creature they just drew, you can't actually stop them with a Funeral Charm (unless they do something else first).
EDIT: Nevermind, looks like I'm wrong. See M_Iverson's comment.

While at first glance it seems that trading your "worst" card in hard for their worst card in hand isn't a particularly useful advantage on turn 1, its power increases dramatically when combined with a turn two Hymn to Tourach. If they drop their least useful card with Funeral Charm, then Hymn won't be wasting its time by pulling that card out randomly.

Unlike most charms, this can actually do FOUR things, since its middle ability can buff one of your creatures for that crucial two damage or take out a low-toughness utility creature, as well as its other two choices.

You could play this with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth on your first turn. Or, you could save it until you have a creature...

Gasp, what heresy is this, an Instant speed discard spell!?
That being noted, the other two abilitys are still pretty good, potential removal or pump is helpful in combat, and swampwalk can in theory end the game, however its less useful then the other two abilities
