I can't believe they timeshifted this crap. In thirteen years of playing Magic, I have yet to see a Dandan do anything on the board other than suck and die.

I remember when I first started playing magic we thought we had to play all of the colors. This guy was pretty solid, plus it traded with craw wurm.

I guess if this was a sideboard against blue, or you bothered to use a card like Dream Thrush then maybe this could read as, "Destroy target blocking or blocked creature with toughness less than 4." But meh, islandhome sucks. For the color that boasts flying, shadow, and unblockable, a card like this just gets ignored.

Believe it or not, for the longest time I wondered why this card looked like a boat but was classed as a fish.

Then I, uh, looked at it again.

Yeah.

It's a 4/1 for BlueBlue guys. Come on now. You're probably playing some lame counter deck anyway. Let's see 'em counter this on turn two. S u c k i t b l u e .

Give it Islandwalk, then we're talking. But as is... no.

Even if your opponent isn't playing blue, it's still not a bad blocker, killing most things for only 2 mana.

Fantastic art. The watercolour casts an eerie shadow over the theme and the fact that the monster itself is obscured creates a sense of surprise in the viewer when they finally realize what lurks below the surface.

The accent makes it way to obvious to be a play on the Jaws "approaching" violin music: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCfWHqrYUqo)

Well, whenever I play it, I always go, "Dan dan... Dan dan.... dandan dandan dandan dandan dandan dandan..."

How to win with a Dandân:
-Cast Dandân
-Attack with everyone
-Cast Mirrorweave targeting Dandân
-All your opponent's creatures die, while you are attacking with an army of 4/1's
-Win

Sneak Sakashima's Student onto the field with ninjutsu and let him copy Dandân.
That gives you a 4-power Ninja Fish attacking your opponent no matter if they have any islands or not!
That's right, a Ninja Fish is just that awesome.

Now if only it had islandwalk.

You guys are underestimating him. He is absolutely excellent in a blue islandhome deck, or at least he was for his time. Combine with Tidal Warrior, Phantasmal Terrain, etc. to force your opponent to have an island. Then you have a 4/1 for 2 mana. Great for putting the pressure on and discouraging people from attacking. Then of course you also want Seasinger and every other islandhome creature.

This goes in my accent deck. Also, at first, I thought the ships were the creature, but it's not.

This card isn't quite as bad as it seems at first. Compare to Wall of Torches -- if you're already running Spreading Seas or something similar, this card can act as cheap defense that will likely trade off with something costing more, and if you get an island on your opponent's side of the board, it can also attack.

It's not great, but even a 4/1 defender for two mana wasn't so bad back in the day.

C'mon, it's {U}{U} for 4 power. It's a solid defensive threat even if you can't swing with it, and very good for breaking control mirrors (comes down turn 2, demands answer)

@DaaNz "fish don't swim vertically"

You haven't seen very many fish, have you?
Blue gills and many other sunfish do a very good job of swimming vertically when they are eating stuff floating on the surface of the water.
Great white sharks and many other fish will swim vertically when they rush the surface in order to pounce on their prey.
I'm sure there are numerous other examples. It is pretty common really.
