An effective customizable control card.

I love this card. Against most decks, it's basically an indestructible blocker on turn one.

It's like they wanted to join the Orzhov, flubbed it, and made their own secret club to feel better about it...

A nice customizable Wall, can serve as an effective barrier against many decks, however certain cards outcla.ss it, such as the later Burrenton Forge-Tender...

Out classed? Perhaps for those protection decks that are useless unless they are against a particular color. (I hate those)

Anyway, this card practically has troll shroud against mono decks. I should have ordered a play set a long time ago. Even their flavor is nice... I love this card.

Protection from Tarmogoyf for that can change to Protection from Merfolk for without any pregame adjustment? Sounds good to me. One of the best 1cc defenders in its color, if not the best. (Hard to say. Wall of Hope is different enough to make strict comparisons impossible.)

Cards like this and Mother of Runes give certain White Weenie builds a fighting chance in Legacy. Not much of one, but better than none... Mother of Runes is even more essential in Zoo, because the protection you need may very from turn to turn. Understandably, blocking Tarmogoyf and surviving a Lightning Bolt and dodging Path to Exile is not something Order of the Stars initiates can train for :)

Wizards should print a defender critter with "protections from spells and permanents with converted mana cost " with casting cost , call it Agile Mentalist, and give it "You may play Agile Mentalist from your hand for ." ... leading every player to scratch their head until someone points out the weird hijinx lets it dodge Mental Misstep. :)

@Salient: Make the cost of Agile Mentalist {1}{W}{W} instead. Otherwise it goes down to Spell Snare!

Better in EDH where you know what colors to pick. It's pretty much guarenteed to hose something.
This is the card that taught me how useful prot' abilities are.

Running this plus Mother of Runes is just nasty, and aggro will hate you. So do it.

@LordRandomness, just give it "While this spell is on the stack, your opponents cannot cast spells with cmc 1.
