Hey, it's like Llanowar Elves, but way worse. It could have easily been get BB and take 2 damage or something interesting and not just a nerfed Elves.

This is whats wrong with art now. Too little detail.
The dark version actually looked real. Something rarely seen in MTG.

This allows you to more easily splash black, something Llanowar can't do.

I like how they were able to take the card and make it fit the flavor of Ravnica.

@Elysiume: You are totally missing the point of the card.
@OutlawD1: You hit this card's purpose right on the head.
As for the art, both kinds are cool in their own way.

flavorful? maybe. but it loses 3 whole stars for not looking like BELLATRIX FREAKING LESTRANGE.
So, 2 stars for the Ravnica version, 5 stars for The Dark's version, 2 + 5 = 7, divided by 2 = 3.5.
3.5 is about right for Elves of Deep Shadow, because it DOES pain you on a tap ability, and if you want to pain for multicolor, Fetchlands and Ravnica Lands are one-shot pains, rather than tapping for pain.
3.5 is still better than a lot of cards, and green/black is such a delicious color combination. More than 'playable', this is a Good Card. :)

This was played a lot because of Hypnotic Specter appearing in 9th.

Llanowar Elves would have a hard time replicating this, unless your first land is an Overgrown Tomb.
