Wouldn't hold up in the current wither-filled environment but the cheap and perfect defense made this a bomb back in the day.

Some people just don't know how good this card is.
It can block Hypnox, for example.

1-Drop chump blocking at it's best.

It's amazing how much better having flying makes this over Drudge Skeletons, even if it can't attack for anything.

Honestly, one of my favorite cards of all time. Love playing black and this is the single greatest defense you could ask for. Invulnerable to most removal so long as you have the open mana and, turn after turn, will block just about anything.

Guys, I think we found the god of chump blockers. If only regenerate didn't tap it...

A compelling argument could be made that the Wisp is the best blocker ever printed in Magic.

Will-o'-the-Wisp is only good as long as you have the mana open to pay for its regeneration ability. If your deck is aggressive and seeks to spend all of your mana on spells and creatures each turn, then this card probably isn't for you. However, for control decks, this card is wonderful at keeping your opponents' creatures at bay while you're preparing your win conditions.

I have seen this card hold of so many gigantic creatures for turn after turn after turn, singlehandedly keeping people alive while they build up their own strategies.

If it was printed these days it would be 1B with all the same abilities. Even then it would be awesome. For 1 CMC it's just phenomenal. Good in any black deck that isn't straight aggro.

Grimjaw, an aggro deck wouldn't run a 0/1 anyway...

@jsttu

There aren't that much creatures out there that can regenerate for nothing but one black mana. And those that can usually have a fairly pricy CMC for its PT. Being able to play this turn one enables you to build onto it via auras/equipments very easily(or simply leave it as a 0/1 blocker while you build up on other stuff) without risking losing it unless you tap yourself out. Furthermore, having flying gives this creature an even wider range of creatures to block, and a range of creatures to evade. Even a simple Unholy Strength on turn 2 can make this more and more formidable.

Better than Drudge skeletons for blocking purposes.
With equipment this can be a beast.

WHY was this not reprinted in Innistrad?

I would personally run Fog of Gnats over this, since that card combos well with things like Basilisk Collar. Otherwise, a solid blocker this one too.

Pick up a foil copy, I believe they don't have reminder text.

They do. For some reason they kept the reminder texts on some foil versions.
Unfortunately Will-o'-the-Wisp is one of them.

On the bright side, as all foils from 8th and 9th, it has a juicy black border.

Playing mono-black, this is one of the best things you could pop out first turn barring Dark Ritual shenanigans. An it often plays out a lot better. Add to that amazing flavour and nice artwork, this thing easily makes my top 5 of Black cards. 5/5 for so many reasons.
