The card isn't awful but we have Gideon Jura which does so much more. This guy's main ability is to live when you wrath the board.

Silly trick to do: Animate this, then turn it blue with Neurok Transmuter. It loses the Artifact card type, then at the end of combat it stops being a creature. For the rest of the turn, you have a blue, typeless permanent.
You can even Moonlace it to make it colorless and typeless! No, there's really no point. But it's fun, and I don't know of any other ways to make a typeless permanent.

Well ... if nothing else, it evades board wipes, so you can cast Wrath of God and then follow up with a swing from this.
