if you pay 6 instead of 3, before you tap it, does it do it twice?

2 mana casting cost, 2 to activate, that's what those bright sparks from Esper pay for their version of this.

Love the art. The scepter isn't magic or anything, it's just bashing you in the back of the head!

They missed their chance to make a discard creature in Time Spiral called "Disrupting Specter."

I realized that this is actually not as bad as I thought... If you combine it with bounce and some more discard to make an off-beat non-black discard deck. For example green-blue.

Normally sorcery speed repeatable discard just makes your opponent dump his hand on the battlefield and he will play every new card immediately. So, normally, Scepter kinda just sits there after maybe two activations.

BUT

When your opponent's hand is empty, this will turn every bounce spell into Vindicate. Kinda like Recoil really is instant Vindicate if you do it right.

Into the Roil
Repulse

etc. is good bounce that will make sure that you don't run out of cards to soon.

You could stay mono-blue or go into other colors than black. Blue does have discard! Check out Wistful Thinking, Dismal Failure or Mind Culling etc.

This artist probably really hates Family Guy ;)

Sword of Feast and Famine gives you 3x as much value, and you don't feel awful pulling it from a booster. . . unlike this card.

Scepter of Fugue is this, but cheaper, except, with that you have to use black, this is any deck, just more mana.

olojmi - No, good thinking though. If you had something that could untap your creature like telekinetic bonds you could though ;)

I immediately think of "whenever a player discards a card" powers like confessor, or spirit cairn

BONK!

So that's how this card works.

@ClockworkSwordfish: Hmm. Disrobing Scepter. It's definitely a real card (at least as far as any Unglued card is real) -- go ahead and Google it -- but it seems they left it off gatherer, perhaps because it's not appropriate for children?

Yes, I suppose that giving someone a concussion is controlling their mind.

@Aquillion

Actually, Disrobing Scepter was never printed. It was part of a set of joke cards MaRo came up with for Duelist magazine. The "set" included other such cards as Gratuitous Babe Art and Rain of Typos.

There's an article for those interested.
